My 96 gt40 ski nautique has the stock muffler. I noticed the other day that the muffler seems to be vibrating against the hull. I lifted the muffler slightly and some of the noise stopped. What material is used between the muffler and hull to reduce noise transmission? I wonder if mine is gone.

Scrap carpet was always a choice from the factory! I'd suggest a closed cell Buna-N foam rubber about 1/4" thick and a density of around 14 lbs/cu. ft. McMaster has it.

Strips or mat? Have never pulled muffler so I don't know the muffler fits into the hull

My Ski Nautique originally has carpet strips wrapped around them. During the rebuild I simply purchased blue foam from Lowes, found in the insulation department, and secured it with zip ties. Better than new.

Dave, You should be able to see where the muffler is rubbing on the hull so that's where you want the cushioning. The area is probably small so strips of foam rubber will work. They are made with an adhesive backing but getting it to stick will require careful cleaning. I'd suggest a solvent wipe before applying the foam. |

Those aren't the type of mufflers that they used on GT-40s.
Dave do you have the inverta-flow or hull hugger muffler? 96 ski I'm assuming an inverta-flow |
