    Posted: August-08-2016 at 11:01am
I got to the marina to launch my boat yesterday and realized that someone stole my gas cap off my 1991 Excel. Just when I thought my faith in humanity couldn't get any lower. I tried a 2" cap from West Marine and of course it didn't work.

I am going out of town on Wednesday so I ordered (from nautiqueparts.com) both a replacement cap and a complete fill deck in case the replacement cap doesn't fit. Has anyone changed out a gas fill deck? Is the fuel tube connected to the fill deck with standard worm-drive hose clamps? I have a limited amount of time to replace it so I thought I would ask so I can take the right tools.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Luckily, the Nautiqueparts gas cap fit my boat and I didn't have to replace the fill deck. If this post is ever referenced in the future, the replacement (85-96) gas cap, part number S504, fits a 1991 Excel.

Did you bother to check your fuel level? I'm guessing someone was really after your gas and not the cap. Fix the tether.

I did check my fuel level and it was the same as when I left it last. I was afraid that rain might have gotten into the fill deck, too. I'm guessing someone lost their cap at the dock and went scrounging in the storage yard, since I found my boat cover tiedown straps undone near the windshield on both sides. A hell of a thing to do to someone, considering my outing was scratched for that day.
