The pylon on my 1991 Ski Nautique is all marked up and I want to polish it to make it look like new. Anyone got any advice on how to do that?

Brian,
On my 77, I chucked it up in the lathe at work and took some fine abrasive paper to it putting the annular grain back in. In 77 the pylons were straight allowing me to do it but I seem to believe by 91 the pylons had the intentional bend just above the sole. If yours does have the bend, you'll need to do the job by hand. Rolls of abrasive strips are available at industrial supplies or good hardware stores. |

Thanks. You are right, my pole does have a bend in it. Unfortunately, no lathe for me. What grit did you use?

Any Chrome Shop can handle it. They can either put a high luster polish finish or a brushed finish to it. They use flap wheels and buffs loaded with about any grade abrasive in them.

Almost all pylons from '71-01 have the bend... The ski tique is one of the few exceptions.

Brian,
If I remember correctly, I started with 60 grit to get all the scratches and dings out and then ended up with 120. Removing your pylon and getting it in the horizontal position would make the job easier. General purpose sanding rolls. |

I call this "Sanding the old main mast"...use a stroking technique...it should come sort of naturally to most guys...get some aluminum polish and buff that sucker.
