New Guy

Hi everyone, I'd like to welcome you to me. I'm a new guy here. I just bought an 84 (or maybe it was an 85?) Ski Nautique 2001. Followed all the typical boat buying advice, waited until winter, watched the prices, drove hundreds of miles to pick it up, etc.

I didn't think I'd end up with a 2001 since they really hold their value on Craigslist here in Ph0enix, but after I missed out on an open bow Centurion because it was across town and then I missed out on a cool Eliminator that was down the street, I told my wife I was going after the next good deal I found..

Turns out that was in San Diego. So, drove to San Diego, bought a boat. On the way home, I also bought a tow truck ride and a radiator too...but I got a good deal on the boat.

Anyway, I found this place, but it might not be the right place for me. My plans include a tower. And they include teaching my kids to wakeboard and surf. I'll probably also pull a tube every so often. I know that doesn't sit well with some, so I'll try to be discrete.

After making sure she is seaworthy I'll start to build the tower (I'm decent enough at bending tube and glueing metal together) then I think I'll look for a speed control and then build some ballast into the bow and under the rear seat. I think that's the order, but I also have vehicular ADHD, so it could end up with vinyl flames and set of gold Daytons, though I have no idea how I would mount rims on a boat.

Anyway, I know threads are worthless without pictures, so here's a picture of her. Sorry it's on Photobucket, I know they suck, Once I get everything moved to imgur, I'll relink.

Relax, you'll be fine. My '79 is stock as a rock, except of course for the left handed Chevy, tower, paint, seats, instruments, bolsters and stereo.

Thanks for the welcomes. I'm really looking forward to the maiden voyage next weekend. I finally finished up the wiring on my uncle's pontoon, so between the two of us, we're hoping at least one of the rigs is sea worthy.

I bought some lumber and carpet to redo the bunks. That's probably what Friday will hold. I was going to reply in the "Carpet the right direction" thread, but the internet wouldn't allow it. Maybe I need to buy some net neutrality.

Uncle also gave me a free Bimini so I can run duals. Went to the hardware store to find some 12x24 long shoulder screws to mount it and ended up with brass. Looks silly but I'll find some stainless ones soon enough, unless I don't. This thing is a driver and isn't gonna win any beauty pageants any time soon.

I see a lot of wrong turns so far and you haven't even seen water yet. There are some parts that will cross over from automotive but never fuel system . You must have got it for a steal to make all the upgrades worth doing. Good luck

Welcome to the site. Great looking boat, however, like most of us, I think you'll find that BOAT really stands for break out another thousand. LOL

Just get some silver metallic paint to touch up the cracks.

It will just get scratched up anyway.

Hey thanks. That's good to hear. I fired up an Imgur account for hosting as most of my posting is done from my phone. Here's a picture of my carb. Why? Just because I need a test picture and I'm sure no one wants to see the camo first gen S10 with an extended cab and bobbed bed that I saw in a BK parking lot or the selfie of me with some dude dressed up as Colonel Sanders. He didn't speak English.



I basically dream in BB code since I started moderating my off road club website about 47 million years ago. It's a thankless job but at least it doesn't pay and the hours are long.

So, hey, does anyone know what this is? It came with the boat and the PO didn't know either? I'm going to assume it's the "sets the tachometer right" and "stops the part throttle surging" bar. I only assume that because I didn't bring it to the lake and those were the two problems I had. And a little bit of hard starting.



I installed a new tach and it seems...off. Maybe half off? It's hard to tell. It's got a little dial on the back, I'll turn that and see what happens. Anyway, all things being equal, the boat did great. Took a roller over the windshield, got wet and cold. Didn't make that mistake again. Never did rebuild the carb, that's probably the source of the stumble and hard starts. Now that I think about it, it's most likely not that pole things.

Definitely part of a Fish Nautique. I've seen this setup on some of the fishing trawlers on the mighty Salt River.



It could also be a mast from one of those rare Sail Nautiques. They came with extra large skegs to keep them on course when pulling slalom skiers on the Trades to Papeete.



This is how it mounts to the pylon.



My guess is it is most of a barefoot boom and the mount is just a little low. Or maybe that's where it's supposed to be, I know nothing about barefooting, I'm not even sure what kind of skis to use.

I think it is a boom for fishing nets?

Sail Nautique...hella rare...good find
