Some of you know due to some bad experiences I've had at Autozone, I have a tendency to pick on them. Well, today I needed to shop for some auto parts and since there's an Autozone next door to the HD, I stopped after work. As a test I went up to the counter and told the associate I needed a 3 pole starter relay. Note I did not ask him for a "solenoid". Not saying a word, he turned around, walked back into the shelving and pulled one out. Proceeding with the "test", I asked him what the round things are you use to plug up the holes in the water cavity of an engine block. He then told me they were "core" plugs but some miscall them "freeze plugs". Well, I now know Autozone does have some good employees

Pete - You should get on their website & give the guy 5 stars.

The conversation after you left Pete

Associate #1 Hey who was that guy with the matching hair and shirt

Associate #2 Here's his job application, you can get his info from that

Associate #1 So, he's looking for a job?

Associate #2 Yeah, but I don't think he knows much, he asked some pretty silly questions.

Associate #1 I thought he was one of them corporate guys that come in and act dumb to see how we treat people.

Associate #2 Well, if he is a corporate spy, at least I was nice to the old guy

Pretty Funny Pete and Keno.
The old School good parts guys are becoming extinct unfortunately.
I went into the local O'Reilly needing a Fel-Pro manifold gasket.
I gave them the Fel-Pro Part number I needed.
They reply, what does it fit.
I give him the number again and say it is on the shelf right over there.
He says, yes but I need to verify it fits.
I say I know it fits I just took the same part number off.
He says yes but I can't bill it if I don't know what it fits.
Now just to amuse myself, I say, It is a 1971 Chevy 350 in a 1965 Jeep.
He says, I will get my manager.
I have had very good help at this same store on other occations, it is all in the experience factor.

I pretty much do all my part shopping on line now, so dont deal with that. But back on Cape Cod (there were just a few boats out there) it used to drive me nuts. "I need an xyz." "What Mercruiser do you have?" "I dont have a Mercruiser" "Oh, hold on then......what do you have?" "It's a PCM. Oh, we dont have parts for those aftermarket engines." "OK, never mind"

Down here, another one that floored me.   Lost a prop, nut and key. Pursued the prop down normal channels, but to get by, I had a spare, but still needed a key and nut. Called a local boat dealer that sold brand x inboards, so they should have them. "I need a nut and a key" "What engine do you have?" "What engine I have has nothing to do with it, I need a nut and a key" "What engine is it?" OK, fine, its a 305 chevy, OMC marinization." "That engine was never used in inboards, just I/Os" OK, thanks for you time"

“So, how was your weekend?”
“Well, let me see…sun burn, stiff neck, screwed up back, assorted aches and pains….yup, my weekend was great, thanks for asking.”

I stay out of parts stores...or else I would be the one in a million customer dumber than the clerks.

Thankgoodness and C/CFan that I got backfoot100 as a friend.
