I am adding a stereo to my 1991 SN. I have a couple of general questions to see what the best route is -
Do I need a second battery? - Pros and cons? If yes do I get a battery "switch"? Wiring - Do most of you just go Pos and Neg to battery and ignition to ignition? If so what is the best route for tapping into the ignition wire. Thanks in advance. Gary |

+ & - to battery. You should have a couple spare ACC switches on your dash (my 89 did) and that is where you terminate your IGN lead. No need for a second battery unless you getting crazy.

yep, i concur with Throttle. Second battery only useful if you plan on playing tunes while engine is off and longer than ~10 min.. If you do choose a second battery, you will need some sort of isolator to keep your starting battery from draining, but still allows for your alternator to charge it. Many options out there. I went with this one for simplicity sake. Others have used the Blue Seas Switch.

Thanks guys. That set up to the ACC worked like a champ. I am going to add a 2nd battery and switch.. What do you recommend. It will just be running the stereo for now.

Sounds like the intent is to run the stereo while the boat is off, more than likely while anchored, means you will be draining and charging that battery frequently, i believe a marine deep cycle would be right up your alley.

Yep that is the plan on the weekends when the lake is slammed full. We anchor and float... Thanks for the info. |

+1 -- Just remember not to use a deep cycle to crank your engine - you'll need that second battery system with a switch & isolator. |

I put the battery in a battery box located under the closed bow section.

Anyone else have pics of their install? We can create a sticky so others can see! A visual is worth a million words!
