Hi everyone,
My wife and I are proud new owners of a 1981 23' Correct Craft Sea Nautique. I just wanted to introduce myself and share a picture of our boat. We live in Friday Harbor, WA, and found the boat here locally on the island. I'm really glad to have found this forum, we are completely new to CC, and I'm sure we'll have many a question to ask along this new journey. I tried to do as much research as I could on this boat before the purchase, and from what I understand seems to be a less common model in the Nautique line up, the seller echoed this as well. Does anyone know how long they produced the Sea Nautique? My wife and I were instantly attracted to the design of the boat, with it's unique lines, as well as the wheel house. We are involved in killer whale research in the Pacific Northwest, and think this boat will be more than ideal, especially with the large amount of deck space that wraps around the wheelhouse, and the visibility within the wheel house as well - this boat is quite a huge upgrade from our little 17' Alumaweld Talon. Thanks for reading, and I look forward to getting to know other members! -Jason and Monika ![]() |

Nice looking boat Jason,I'll bet that pilot house is a nice addition up in the NW. Putting a HeaterCraft heater in that would be awesome.

Thanks Gary!
Yeah that's definitely true! We were pleasantly surprised to see that the boat has a heater installed as well as a defroster for the windshield ![]() -Jason |

Jason,
Fantastic find with the Sea. Great looking and yes, not many of them around. Make sure you get us some more pictures. We love them!! What engine is in it? The original or was it repowered at one time? Welcome to CCfan. I feel you will find that the information here and the great knowledge base of the members is like no other. If you get a chance, submit a diary entry. The Sea would make a fantastic addition. |

That's a beautiful vessel! I've always wanted one to use on lake Michigan.
Enjoy and post a few more pictures. |

Thank you! This boat has the original Ford 351 engine with Borg Warner velvet drive transmission, the motor has 500 hours on a rebuild.

Nice boat!
Is the nav system working? Will you get a kicker motor? |

So its basically a Fish with a pilot house, a Sea Nautique had twins like the san juan. I fished for dolphin in a sea nautique when I was a kid off Daytona in 6' seas .

Welcome Jay, and that is one nice looking boat! I think that's the coolest Nautique I've seen on the site this year.
It looks like the pilothouse was really well thought out, two can rub shoulders side by side at the helm standing or comfortable seating, they made it big enough to be really useful and comfortable without losing much deck space, plus 3 points of entry. How is the headroom? Not sure how you can stand to not splash it and have some fun now. |

Yes the navigation system is fully functional. It came with a Navico broadband radar (BR24) and Lowrance HDS-5, as well as a Standard Horizon Quest GX1255s radio. We plan to add a kicker motor in the near future, something up to 15hp, just haven't seen anything suitable on the market in our area yet. |

Thanks for the comments and the warm welcome! The pilothouse is definitely one of the factors that led to my wife and I purchasing this boat. We had looked at a lot of other boats out there that had an enclosed cabin, but they didn't offer quick and easy access to the outside of the cabin, have a wrap around deck, or offer as much visibility as this boat does with the large windows and sliding doors. Since we do a lot of photography, and will primarily be using this as a research vessel, visibility was a very important factor for us. I'd have to measure the interior dimensions of the pilothouse, but the headroom is excellent, I'm 5'7" and have plenty of headroom. Yeah it's really hard to have the boat out of the water and just sitting there! I keep reminiscing of the day we took it out for the sea trial. ![]() Cheers, -Jason |

It's been my experience that the reason a kicker is installed on an inboard is because they won't idle down slow enough to troll. I've also read that in your neck of the woods 1 knot troll is not uncommon. Troll valves cannot be put on Velvet drives and can be kind of complicated since if you go over 1000 rpm with out disengaging it you will immediately burn the plates. Some sort of lockout is needed. Cannot use it for docking because response time is slow but works great in diesel applications since it allows it to turn up a higher idle to keep it from loading up
I asked Art about these boats and this was his response - Gary, I was speaking to a couple of long-timers (we avoid the word "Old") at Mr. Ralph Meloon's funeral yesterday, and I was reminded that at one time we took some Fish Nautique hulls, stole a phone booth from Ma Bell, put it out in the middle of the boat, and sold it as a Sea Nautique. I don't think it was ever in a catalog. The Sea was truly 24 feet, and the guy said in his post that it's 23. My guess would be that we built less than 25 of those. I don't recall quite what year, I think it was '85-'86. One of our engineers had to go to Borneo to help an owner there with some problem or another on one of them. The guys on the production floor referred to that model as "the boat with the toll booth in the middle of it.' It didn't go over primarily because virtually all of our dealers were inland and concentrated on family and ski boats. |

I agree Gary and have heard the same, but for me it would be about being offshore and losing engine power for whatever reason! 15 HP will keep you moving, and bow into the waves. |
