That is the type of experience I don't have. Although reading things like that had me gravitate toward CC and MC.

Great first outing on our local lake. Had some of the best ski runs of my life.
Although I did manage to end up on my butt on a hard wake crossing. Suit ended up around my armpits - uncomfortable.

But Poorhouse, those other forum guys are wrong. Nautique is the best!
Glad you found a boat you like that fits your needs.
I do all my own repairs on my equipment and the Correct Crafts I have worked on always show quality in each and every detail. That is what brought me back into the fold.
Our Ski group has a Malibu, a Supra, a Mastercraft a Nautique and a Jet boat. I have turned wrenches on all of them.   Nautiques are pretty well sorted out although the other boats all had features I liked.

LOL I did. We don't have enough boating experience to have strong brand loyalty.
It seems any forum you go to thinks their brand is the best.
Had many discussions with friends who are life long boaters. Most felt all the brands have their pluses and minuses. They felt we couldn't go wrong with any of the boats on our list.

Sport Nautique
Prostar 205
Malibu Sunsetter LXi

There aren't many of these boat around here. So lots of shopping and test driving were out. We limited our search circle to 500 miles and decided to let condition and confidence in the seller guide us. I think we did well. The seller is OCD, they kind of person you want to buy a boat or car from. After a little clean up at home the boat is really in excellent condition.    The little bit we've used it the boat feels very solid. I hope it holds up well.

The MC forum is pretty good. Not like here though. I'm much more interested in restoration, maintenance and preservation than discussing new boat features.
So I'll stick around here.
I'll be the only guy wearing a CC shirt on a MC.

Sounds like things are going your way. Easy sale, great new purchase/boat, coupled with a great weekend on the water.... What do they say? Every set back is a new opportunity, or something like that. Enjoy the rest of your summer with the new tug.

The Supra sold in a week.
Buyer came from Spokane. Had 2 back ups, one of which pursued the buyer to make an offer.
The entry level ski boat market is hot.

Here is the damaged side cleaned up.

Wife and I came up with a small list of replacement candidates. Had to be open bow, composite construction and fuel injected. List consisted of MC Prostar 205, Sport Nautique, and another Sunsport. Had to be excellent condition, low hours, known history, etc. I was willing to travel 500 miles for a nice boat.

Found this Sport I really liked. It was priced pretty high, but only had 189 hours and was being sold by the original owner. Ended up being to far away.

Then found this 1996 Prostar 205 out of McCall, ID. Second owner since 2009, 360 hours, all records, stored inside, etc. Seller had not planned to sell but came across a '00 205 with 120 hours he could not pass up. We met him at Payette Lake, ID. Had a successful inspection and water test and made the deal. We had 3 205s on the water at one point. This one, his new one and his law partners '00 he had bought new.

Ended up staying there for the long weekend. Wife had a college friend that was there as well. Spend Sunday on Payette Lake. Really pretty area. Towed 480 miles home with no issues. Hoping nice weather holds through September.

Comprehensive claim, not collision. That can make a difference.

This is true. I have Progressive for the boat and camper. Both on an agreed value policy. The language on both policies says in event of a total they will pay agreed value.

Their auto policy doesn't offer agreed value, only stated amount. It reads in event of total will pay actual cash value or stated amount, whichever is less.
Ended up insuring the '79 Dodge pictured above through Safeco on an agreed value policy.

What I found interesting is that they have to use the actual cash value to make the total loss determination, not the agreed value. Apparently most states total loss law language is based on actual cash value.

I used progressive on several of my sport bikes before I went into racing full time. I made a few claims and hey we’re great. One claim was when I hit a deer and did $6k of damage to a brand new Cbr 1000. I had my money in a few days and premiums never went up. I insure everything through farm bureau now but I wouldn’t be scared to use progressive vehicle insurance again in the future.

Man, that's a great story. I am always getting the short end of the stick whenever insurance is involved. Business insurance is like legalized crime, and place a claim?? May as well kill yourself.

Good for you.

I am not in the market for a boat but I would not be afraid of that Supra with the doc damage.

In Arkansas, as long as the titled owner buys the vehicle from the insurance company and the insurance company never takes possession of the title then it stays clean. However, if the insurance company takes possession then it becomes a salvage title. Of course, in Arkansas, boats don't have titles, trailers do. It's weird!

Not sure where the 'salvage' line really is. Maybe someone in the insurance game would know.

My understanding is that if there isn't some kind of massive structural issue it is just a financial decision. In this case my boat had a book value of $5500, the $4500 estimate was over 75% of the value so was enough to "total" mine. If the boat had been worth $20k they would have written me a check to fix it.

This, the same boat you began this thread worried about, claiming it was "damaged". "torn up", and questioning the integrity of the hull. platform, and transom?
Now you're simply going to sell it to someone else?

Strike me as a real stand-up guy. GLWS

You raise some good points. My question was if the transom could have been compromised by the impact to the swim platform.
The shop inspected the transom and determined no damage. The mounting screws weren't even pulled out. There is a bit of stress cracking in the gel. They think that was there before as there was some discoloration in the cracks. The platform brackets are slightly bent and the trim strip was damaged. There was a chip in the fiberglass at the transom corner. The rest of the damage was black scratches through the decal on the side.

The eye opener on the estimate was the labor rate at $140 hour and repair times. I think they had 14 hours to remove the decal and buff the side. That adds up in a hurry.

I plan to disclose everything I know about the boat and its history to any prospective buyer. I think anyone shopping in the $5k range will expect some issues. Or, perhaps I won't find any takers and it will stay with us. If that happens I'll continue to lurk here dreaming of a Nautique.

As long as he's upfront with the buyer who cares, people sell SN's with rotten stringers to uninformed buyers everyday.
I have a feeling there wasn't any structural damage just some gel cracks.
