Contact Lenses

Just curious if any of you ski with Contact Lenses in?
My eyes are fading a little with age and I am not comfortable driving without glasses and skiing is less clear. I have contacts now but have never used them in the water.
I appreciate any feedback.

Pretty much ditto what those guys said. Been wearing contacts skiing for decades. Even back to the hard lens days. Sometimes that didnt work out too well as they could wash out. Lost a few. Since soft/disposables, no problems skiing. Barefooting had some issues. Not washing out, but spray on starts gets behind them and blurs them. I started wearing goggles to get around that.



Adam Deen says he just closes his eyes for the starts but I dont like that. I like to see, even if I cant see.

I have lost one lens, footing fall. So like they said above, having an extra set or glasses isnt bad insurance, but probably not an issue with skiing vs footing.

Wore contacts for 15+ years, lots of skiing/swimming/etc. Only lost one or two. Had Lasik a few years ago and wish I had done it sooner.

Thanks for the encouraging advice. I am now 61 and they tell me Lasic is not such a good idea at my age.   Water and Snow skiing are not compatible with glasses so I am trying contacts.

My brother at 7 years older had a new lens installed for same reason last month. He loves his restored vision.   My Dr says my lens looks great they are just older now. So no cataract so far. Just need the vision help. Thanks for the tips.

Adam, Didnt know you had started the bacerds quest. How is it going? (Pics/vids or it isnt happening) Hopefully it won't take you as long as it took Greg and me, but you have got youth on your side. I'm not convinced that doesnt help. As far as contacts and bacerds footin', I find the opposite. I can actually do bacerds without my goggles., which I prefer, since I can see better without them. I am facing away from the spray, so no need. Not sure why you are having issues with it, unless you are going a different route to get bacerds. You going the Randy Filter route? Kid was crazy.

For what it’s worth I just read an article about all this with the meteorologist who just killed herself. It said when you get up to our age it was not recommended to do lasik because soon you would be needing cataract surgery anyway and somehow it could interfere. I’m sure it would be best to talk to your healthcare professional.

Back in 1986 I experimented using a contact lens (for near vision) in one eye. This was not acceptable to me as the compromise with distance vision was too great. I lived in Atlanta then and the heavy traffic demanded excellent vision. Regardless the ReStor lenses made my vision 20/20 and I highly recommend it.

I had it done at 65 and Medicare paid $5k. I paid an additional$3k to have the near vision correction. Now I no longer need reading glasses.
