![]() I’m thinking of putting up one of these, 12wx24dx8h Shelterlogic. Anybody have any experience with these? In the event of our few hurricanes I’d just bite the bullet and uncover it. Any other times our wind rarely gusts to 30mph. It’ll be fairly shaded. I’m hoping to get 3-4 years from the fabric which can be purchased separately. My main concern is humidity. I expect this thing to be a sweat box. I do plan on leaving front and rear “doors”cracked 12-18” with fans to pull air through. I’d be parking my ‘93 SN in it so that alone will produce moisture for a few days post event. My current storage technique is fan inside, fabric cover over boat and tarp over that to waterline, platform pulled, which produces some moisture and requires good cleaning and airing out every two weeks. Looking to speed up storage process. |

Todd,
I have the same size Shelterlogic but in the "house" style. I bought it 15 years ago with the standard vinyl and not their premium expecting to use it for about 8 years. Well, it's still standing even going through all the northern Wisconsin snows. The sunlight is finally getting to the vinyl so when it rains, some seeps through but, their standard vinyl was only advertised as lasting something like 7 years. It sure came in handy when I had to empty the house for the renovation/addition. Come summer, I plan on emptying it of what remains and making a few trips to the dump if my wife will allow it. She has "pack rat" tendencies!! Then it too will go to the dump. |

Hi. I’m using the harbor freight 10x17. If you put plastic on ground and keep floor dry. No condensation in mine after I sealed floor. Works good

I have had that same style for about 7 years or so. On a hot humid day there is condensation. FYI I had to raise mine up on landscaping timbers in order to get the boat and trailer in because the the door isn't quite high enough. Also I have to remove the guide posts on my trailer but that might just be the way my guide posts kinda angle out. You won't have this problem but I did have to replace a couple of brace poles as a result of a heavy snow. I also had to replace a door because the zipper got worn out. Over all though it has been a good alternative to my overcrowded garage.

Art, Whos brand is yours? I ask since you had to replace the door and the braces. Were they the diagonal braces? |

Hmmm, I’m coming up with a 6’5” actual door height on an 8’ building. Idk how tall my SN is but I’m thinking 6’ on an actual CC trailer. Door width on the house style iat narrowest point is 8’ with a decent flare so surely width will be good. I did away with the angled poles CC used and went with vertical ramlin style.

Daryn, did you just put bare plastic down until all the earth was covered and let it be? I’m thinking that’ll tear way to easy and be a PiA for my frequent use. And I don’t want to put mulch or gravel down. I put way too much gravel at my old house. It became such a headache I sold the house rather than deal with the damn gravel.

Todd, According to Shelterlogic specs (fill in your dimensions), the door height is 81" (6" 9"). Maybe Art's portable garage is another brand? I suspect it is since he had to replace braces and his zipper failed and the reason I asked him. |

Pete, the braces that had to be replaced were crossbars on the sides. We had about 5 feet of snow that piled up on top and the sides, as mine is up against a fence, which I guess was too much weight. I bought mine from a place right here in Milford, CT . It is a Rhino Shelter.

as for the height, when you roll the door up you loose a couple of inches. I actually had used it for my other boat which sat higher on the trailer so I had raised it up on the timbers. Even then the windshield still didn't quite clear the opening, with the Nautique it clears.

Insightful, I didn’t think about the distance you lose when you roll it up. I’m starting to lean towards a 10’H for a couple reasons. Do the front and back panels roll up or just the front?

Todd,
Mine came with only one end with a door but, I do believe you can order one with a door at each end. |

I purchased 2 of the 12X24X10 Shelter Logic wit zipper doors in 2007. One for home and one to store our Groomer tractor. Mine at home in a some what tree sheltered area is still standing but the vinyl is getting thin and brittle. The one that was out in the open in direct sunlight for the tractor disintegrated in wind storms about 5 years ago.
The design on mine to hold the vinyl in place requires the removal of pipes at the bottom to take off the covering. Also was quite damp inside with a dirt floor as the water soaks in from the sides when it rains. One of my door zippers fell apart after a couple of years and SL sent me a new one at no cost. They were well worth the $360 I spent on each when I bogught them. |

Bought mine at Menards when they were on sale. But that is still a hefty jump ![]() Just did a quick search and fond this link at HD. https://www.homedepot.com/p/ShelterLogic-Garage-in-a-Box-13-ft-x-20-ft-x-12-ft-Alpine-Style-Garage-62693/202065768 $519 |

There’s a big jump in price from 20’to 24’. Then 24’ to 28’ is only $1xx more. And I haven’t found any retailer that doesn’t stick you for the $150+ for shipping. 28’ would be great but I’m already pushing zone reg’s enough.

Martin, Looking at the Shelterlogic website, it looks like they list 6 or 7 brands as well as three selections of quality. Since it seems you didn't have very good luck with the ones you purchased and to help Todd with his selection, fill us in on exactly what you bought. Considering what you paid and your experience they don't sound the same as what Todd is looking at. Also, I remember paying around $500 for mine 15 years ago and as I mentioned, it's still standing. |

I can add to the conversation that i put up a Tek Supply 24wx24Lx14H in '07, and it still doing extremely well (ClearSpan Storage Master Elite)
The image they use online doesn't do it justice, looks like an 18w in image Its 2x3 galvanized steel box on 4' centers, and very triangulated and rock solid. The fabric is still doing amazingly well and the system has seen some storm of the centuries and epic snowfalls. Its seen 4' accumulations for weeks until it warmed enough to slide off The front zippers have separated, but they got a lot of use before they did. I intend to construct a faux facade in the front, large swinging doors trimmed to look like garage doors with a walk-in door in the door. I have it sitting on and lagged to 5x5 timbers rebarred into the ground, built up with processed and 3/4" stone finish, and the frame ratchet strapped to many soil screw anchors at each upright. That said, its not exactly 'portable', but was delivered in boxes. |

Pete,
Looking at the website they no longer carry the model (62668) that I bought. It was the round top garage in a box. Non of the original documentation tells me anything about the thickness of the covering Presently they state for the 12X20 (Triple-layer, ripstop tough fabric is 100% waterproof. Enhanced weave polyethylene cover, UV treated inside and out.) If I remember right the $369 was a good sale price and I think they were over $500 regular price. I really only used mine to keep the heavy rains and snow off what I was storing in it. After the first year I ended up never closing the door on the front due to humidity issues. The picture on the website of the Garage in a box they carry now looks just like the picture Todd posted ??? |

Well, they don't last forever!!
It's hard for me to put an exact date on when I purchased the portable but with the help from my wife, we figured it's between 20 and 23 years. I did get some good life and use from it. Over the last week, we've been getting some pretty decent snowfalls totaling 22".Last nights of 13" did the job especially since the snow was heavier than most. Nothing damaged inside and the plan was to get rid of it come spring anyway. I'm surprised that the vinyl itself held up all the years. I purchased it with the standard vinyl that they guaranteed for only 7 years. This picture of the mound of snow is deceiving. The bunk house in the picture is actually 2 feet higher than the driveway. |

Good to know it gets Petey’s seal of approval. Hadn’t gotten mine yet. My bum leg is getting in the way but I was doing some measuring today. Hopefully end of March. I don’t know how you put up with all that snow. It was 83 this morning when I was mowing in shorts.

Finally ordered a 12x24x10 round garage which came in. Rather surprised how small of a box they managed to get the fabric in, must super vacuum tight. A few months ago I tried ordering the 12x24x10 from Home Depot but they claimed they couldn’t get that size. They even called Shelter Logic while I was standing there and SHelter Logic said I could only buy that size from them direct which would also add $250 in truck freight. So I kinda dragged my feet bc life’s been hectic then recently I was in Lowe’s and they had a Shelter Logic display and the salesman noticed me looking at it and I said I was looking for one but the size was only available from factory. Lowe’s checked into and they were able to get the one I wanted, for only $45 more than factory’s price but free shipping! Now waiting for wife to leave in July for her cruise so I’ll put it up then, hoping she won’t notice it.

Todd,
She'll never notice!! Mine, as planned went to the dump a month ago. They were very happy to get the steel framework so the vinyl only cost me one dump ticket. Our town sell discount tickets to the residents for about $1.50 each. Sorry to hear about the problem at the HD. Now, I'm going to check into that! Going in in a couple of hours. Closing the store tonight! ![]() |

Todd,
I wonder sometimes about the "associates" we employ at the HD. The round top 12x24x10 is even listed on the website. It's also available in green. Shelter logic I will defiantly look it up in our quote center later today. |

Pete, I wonder if something changed on ShelterLogics from about March to May where they made that size more available to vendors? Or if the Hd employee and SHL employee were just slacking?
