Boat sounds great but after reading some of your idle settings I feel maybe mine is set to low. What do you guys think? Also do you guys purge the water out of engine when you pull the boat out? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_kImT5V104

Mike,
I'd crank the idle up some but, the engine sounds pretty good. How does it run overall?

No on purging water out. The big danger here is running the RWP dry and burning up the rubber impeller. Why? Are there invasive controls at the ramp(s) you use?

Also, here's a direct link to your youtube.

The boat runs very well overall. Can be hard to start when leaving the sandbar after a few hours of sitting. 1247 hours on it and I can hit low 40's with my acme 480 (13x12.5 4 blade) on it. I have noticed that the trans will resonate/ring at me a bit around 22 to 23 hundred rpms. I thought it was kind of odd but no vibration or problems from it so far. The previous owner purged it when he took me out for a test drive, I haven't done it since I have owned it but wanted to ask to be sure.

Your screen name is "FastMike" right?

So speed up that idle

Shoot for 600 in gear since that's what the manual says That would be 650 ish out of gear if the carburetor adjustments are right.

And............your damper plate will thank you for it. It'll last longer when the idle is at 600 ish

Why did he purge and how did he do it?

Never asked him, I would assume to get most of the water out of the block ect. He would pull the boat out of the river and start it up for a second or two and blow out the water.

In my opinion I think its set that low due to what you guys call a dirty neutral. The prop still turns slowly when in neutral. It can be a pain in the rear at the dock if your not tied up. I'll tweak on the idle a bit today and see how it goes.

The PO really didn't have a clue. Once the RWP sucks air, there's no water pressure. All he was doing is blowing water out of the exhaust muffler and tubing with the pressure of the actual exhaust. If you haven't checked on the RWP rubber impeller lately, I'd take a look at it and put a new one in before there's a problem.

So I have a similar question...my engine idles fine, but under load at low speed, she's starting to sputter and stall. It's more pronounced when warm (e.g., after a ski run) and won't always restart easily. To restart, I pump the throttle and feather it to get out of the zone. Otherwise, she's fine.

Years ago, this happened w E10 gas and I solved w some tuning, electronic ignition and marine Stabil. This time, I'm wondering about the little acceleration pump on the carb? Am I barking up the right tree? Would value anyone's experience!

John,
The accelerator pump comes to play just as the name applies upon acceleration so, yes stop barking!

What is getting "it out of the zone"?

Have you tried any adjustments recently on the carb such as the idle mixture screws or the curb idle?

Is gear, what is your RPM?

my out of gear rpms on my 93 is right around 750 or so. purrs like a kitten. Every boat will have a "sweet spot", but I think you need to raise your RPM's up for sure.

Due to the fact I hit a submerged log I have not gotten to bringing my rpms up. The river is getting low here, we could use some rain! Hope to be back on the water in a week or so and Ill give it a try then.
