Steering Wheel Off Center

The former owner put a 4blade prop on my '89 2001 and the steering wheel is a 1/4 turn off center. Is this fixable by simply removing the prop, straightening the wheel and re-installing??

Hmmm...yeah, I guess now that I read that back,..pulling the prop would do anything at all...lol......is this an extensive project??

Where is the play? In the helm or at the tiller arm to rudder post?

Do a search here on CCF for "steering wheel centering", There's a fair amount written about how to do it.

As far as the slop goes, have you lifted the center floorboard behind the engine and looked at the steering tube clamp block both where it hooks to the tube and the ball and socket that the clamp pivots on? Also look at where the clamp mounts to the boat itself to be sure that's tight. Slop in those places will let the cable move without the rudder moving

Check the ball joint where the cable hooks to the tiller arm for slop/looseness too

If you get or have all that tight, then move on to centering the wheel.
