Has anyone converted their 60’s~70s boats to a solo driver seat and wrap type observers seat? I have a 68 barracuda that Ive been pondering building a custom observers bench. I’ve looked at the first generation master crafts and they did something similar to what I was thinking. Can’t put to much seat on the dash side.. just enough to go over the glove box hole, otherwise it will go into the gauge cluster. Anyone tried this?
Thanks

I find the L-shape observer seats used on other brands to be uncomfortable and impractical (not sure what they were going for?)

If the bench isn’t working for your use, any reason not to consider the alternative factory seat configuration (dual buckets- the observer being reversible)?

Not sure how much wider the Cuda is than the 16’ boats (especially considering the effective useable width with the side panels), but I’ve put a wider observer seat in a ski tique and I don’t think I’d do it again. It’s a 3-cheek seat.

The bench is fine, the boat isn’t anything more than a cocktail cruiser. The factory bench is pretty much a 3 Cheek seat its big enough for me, my wife and one of our kids. There is a ton of wasted space. I’ve been studying how to lay it out and it would make the boat much more roomier. Especially if I could integrate behind the seat for storage and have the backrest on shocks to flip up. My brendella had that and it was great. Hell it wouldn’t be hard to integrate an beverage/ice tray under the butt cushion. I’d have to cut down the side panel to get the seat base butted up right and get creative to match the dash angles. But all in all it seems easily doable. I’ve considered the factory style Observer bench but I’m just not a fan. Looks unfinished and would impede on the gauge cluster... one of the the prettiest parts of the boat!

There was no observer bench option in a Cuda? Just buckets.
