Thoughts on bimini's. I've a 79 Ski Tique that is more family boat than ski boat. A Bimini would be a great add to keep the kids from burning etc, but something feels lame about a bimini on that boat. Thoughts? Not concerned about re-sale or anything of the sort, but curious non-the-less.
Any leads on where to get a "vintage appropriate" frame? Doesnt have to be old, but would want it to feel right. |

Couldn’t agree more. Also, Ski Tique, what an awful “family” boat. Leave it for skiing and get a pontoon! |

On the water all day, skiing, chillin, back to skiing. You GOT to get out of the sun. That said, if a Tique is your fam boat, well, it's a small fam ;-) A nice deck boat might be better utilized.:-)

I have 3 boats with a Bimini top but the ‘76 Ski Nautique doesn’t have one! Sunblock, hat, and the cheesy sun shirts are the way to go. Feeling hot? Jump in the water.

Food for thought.... If it's the Family boat and you truly need a bimini. I'm all for keeping it original and will NEVER put a Bimini on my 72 Mustang but I installed the bimini brackets on my 88' SN in the rubber/rope rub rail. I'm thinking the 79 Tique has a rubber rope rail instead of the aluminum rub rail? That way when you don't need the top you don't have those unsightly brackets on the gunnels. My $.02

IDK. if it made all the difference to boating or not, i'd find a way to discretely make it happen.
the sun has been quite intense. Later in the season, not so much. little ones are not little forever. I put one on my mirrocraft, yeah call me a dork. |

Eric
I really don't care to give a bimini opinion I just wanted to put up a picture of a nice looking Tique and say "Good job" on the boat It probably looks familiar ![]() ![]() |

I was thinking to put it into the teak step. Mine is old... and I can slide the teak out. Thinking I remove one teak, and screw into that, so when removed I slide the teak back in and it's not there.

Hey Keno,
Thanks for sharing the pic, and for the kind words. Really happy with how it's come out. Lot of work, and it ain't perfect by any stretch, but love the look. Have to say, the addition of the deck is the absolute best! |

Haha. I don't live on a lake, so a small boat is nice for towing. Sure it's not the typical family boat but it's our first boat and we love it.
Here's the real crime - I've never been able to get up on ski's in my life. Have to teach my kid tho. That'll be interesting. |

What about the stays? You still need to screw their brackets on someplace. |

Id asked on a FB group as well... where the response was yes bimini. This group is more "purist" which I appreciate. Stated in another message, I think I'm going to go for it and here's how:
Insead of mounting into the gunnels and having a permanant bracket or hole, I'm going to drill the bracket into the teak step by sliding the center teak piece out, and screwing beneath where the piece would be. That way, I can remove, re-slide in the piece, and there's no evidence of holes. For the straps, I'm going to use a removable clamp onto the window frame in front and perhaps a suction cup rig on the rear: https://www.amazon.com/SMALLRIG-Locating-Standard-T-Shaped-Wingnut/dp/B07KW2YXVW/ref=sr_1_10?dchild=1&keywords=SMALLRIG+Super+Clamp+Mount&qid=1593006764&s=electronics&sr=1-10 |

Look at the HO Hovercraft . Y’all can get up on that (they ski pretty darn well, too). Look at the quick-release acorn mounting hardware for Bimini tops. Much better looking than the traditional mounts. Link to acorn mounting hardware JQ |

Thanks! Will check it out... and glad for your recco on those brackets... I'd allready found & ordered. They look as low-profile and "appropriate" as possible at least!

I just put a bimini on my boat. Haven't had it out since I got it mounted, but, can't wait to try it. Baking in the sun takes the fun out of boating. I used existing mounting brackets or the rails up front for the straps. Only had to drills two holes on each side for the rear brackets.

My advise is too pick up a used barefoot boom. Those are great for teaching young and old how too ski. You can get confidence and good coaching beside the boat. When ready you or they move to the long line where it is harder to coach and see mistakes that are made. JMO, Donald |

Do you have any pictures and specs of the bimini setup on your 88? I have same boat and need to get a bimini for the family this year. Interested to see the mounts and how the top fits. |
