Trailer Wheel Fell Off

Today I was taking the boat out for one last ride. The wheel bearing blew apart and the wheel off. Luckily I was going 15 on a side road. The trailer frame is now bent where the leaf spring shackle mounts to, pushing the axle back to where I can’t get the wheel one anymore. Might need a new trailer if I can’t get it straight but I did find wheel bearings today. The boats sitting on the side of the road hopefully I can get the wheel on tomorrow.

Just the other day I was thinking to myself "I wonder how Mav's summer with the Beast was?" and you now show up with this problem.

After you get the trailer back in working order, here's something you should take a look at to hopefully prevent future issues.

That is funny, the link worked for Drays garage bearing fix.  I was working in Arkansas in 2013, I called on the manager of a large trucking firm.  As we left the place the man I was working with asks me if I recognized the shop manager.  I did not, he said the guy makes more money with his YouTube videos than he does working the trucking shop.  It was D Ray.  As we drove out we went right past D Rays garage.   I’m a California guy but enjoyed working with all the folks in Arkansas.  We had to cut our work short because a hurricane came in, we flew out right before the airport closed.

ken I got the boat running mint here’s a video and some axle pictures. I got the boat home, I had to loosen up the axle u bolts and slide the axle forward for the tire to clear. New bearings are on but it’s a baindaid fix I don’t trust these Chinese bearings. How’s this axle look, not usable?

Well, you are correct, there was plenty of grease when it failed.  No signs of heat on that failed axle stub.  The inner bearing support looks fine, the inner seal surface looks fine.   Your outer bearing support is pretty ground up but again, the steel looks to be fine.  If it was black or blued it would be junk.

Not sure about available trailers but maybe find a local small welding shop, they work with steel every day and should be able to fix or advise you how bad your frame is.  We lifted my boat off the trailer to paint the trailer, set it down on stacks of used tires that we picked up at the local tire shop.  Did the job put the boat back on the trailer when done and returned the tires.   Second time around I hung the boat from the floor Joists in my garage.  Both methods worked.  The floor joists were 2 1/4 x 10" and did not flex with the load.  I bolted hooks to the wood up  high on the joists for the lift.  Much easier to fix a trailer with no boat on board.  I think there are pics on here somewhere where a guy hung his boat from a tree.

Haha yeah I was thinking if it was more expensive to fix this one vs another trailer, I guess we’ll see. I know of a place that can straighten frames but it looks like it’ll be next season when I can leave the boat at my friends dock.

No cranking and no accessories (blower, horn, pump, nav lights.) I found it was a blown fuse. It had only a 10A in there and I upped it to a 15A. All accessories and ignition cams back. Probably shorted from impact when the trailer slammed the pavement.
