2009 Ski Nautique 196 Closed Bow. I have a leak, water coming in somehow through the recessed front lifting ring fitting. The way the front deck is designed any water is naturally funneled directly towards the fitting. I crawled under the bow and could see the water leaking off the large bolt that extends downward and is attached to a piece of angle iron that is bolted to the hull.
Called a local Nautique dealer and he had never experienced this situation. Just wondering if anyone else with this recessed lifting ring had the same thing happen and how did they fix it? The water runs down and saturates the carpet under the deck and also in front of the drivers seat. I'm worried about possible mold issues. Even with the sun out, the passengers seat raised and soaking up water with a towel it takes a few days to dry things out.

I am having the same issue with my 2003 SN 196 closed bow. After a decent rainfall, flip up the observer seat and the carpet it soaked. Being under the front deck, it is very difficult to allow it to air/dry out...then it rains again and the nuisance contiunes lol. Other than filling the lift ring cavity on the bow with a clean marine silicons (making it in-operable) I have not come up with another (better) solution yet.

I guess what I would do is pull the lift ring out and either get a piece of inner tube/rubber of some sort and make a gasket OR seal it with some 4200 if the gap isn’t to big wide where the bolt goes through.

What is "4200"? Brand? Let me know, thinking of trying to get this fixed with some type of sealant.

Tim, I seem to have fixed the leak. A clear silicon called Lexel, lifted up the gizmo to attach a chain to and filled up the gap and put a small bead around the circular cover plate. I did have to reapply a little after a few days as the original silicon must have settled in and there was a small gap which let a very small amount of water to get in. I did have a temporary fix which you may have already used. Crawled up under the bow and wrapped an old towel around the fitting, put some plastic under the towel and even with heavy rain the towel absorbed the water and didn't get to the carpet.

Thanks for the update, I will tackle mine this weekend. Does the fix you did render the "gizmo" in operable from still being pulled up and pushed down? or can you still use it?

Tim, my fix did make it inoperable but if needed it would be easy enough to get it undone. in 35 years of owning a ski boat I have never had any boat that needed to be lifted from the ring. That said I will probably jinx myself and will now need it soon. Ha!
