I have a 73 Mustang with a '69 Chrysler 273 engine. When I accelerate quickly the engine RPMs jump...when accelerate slowly I do not have this issue. What are the first steps to identify the problem? Could the slippage be from an issue with the shaft connection?

You could get lucky and just be low fluid...doesn't hurt to be a bit above the F mark, driveline angle is somewhat steep
