Wake on 73 SN

   So I am a fairly good rec slalom skier and am looking at a 73 SN. Im curious how the wake compares to what i usually ski behind which is a four winns h190? I keep seeing a vintage SN has more wake than say a 89 or 90s SN.

	I’ve skied behind a 79 Nautique and a few I/O similar to your 4 Winn. The 73 is an awesome classic and will pull great. Wakes behind the 70’s Nautiques are still a bit tall at 30-32 mph. For slalom wakes the best bang for your buck is 1990 and up in my opinion. NWZ hull’s were mind blowing when they came out in 1990. I’ve got a 94 and still love the wake as I did in my teens. Skied yesterday with my 13 year old pulling me. Still smiling.

	Typically, people don't acquire a vintage Correct Craft for the wake and waterskiing characteristics. Plenty of other reasons to own a vintage CC. Now for skiing... Pre 1980 hulls...no comment. The "2001" hull came out in the early 1980's through 1989. The "NWZ" hull came out in 1990 and ran through 1996 The "TSC1" hull came out in 1997 and ran through 2001 To answer your question...the 2001 hull will have a better wake than earlier Ski Nautique models. The 2001 hull was an improvement over the prior hulls. The NWZ hull was a significant improvement over the 2001 hull. The TSC1 hull is a HUGE improvement over the NWZ hull. I have a lot of pulls behind all 3 of these hulls and the TSC1 is my favorite -- by far. The 2001 is OK at 35' off and shorter. Longer lines and the "bump" is quite noticeable and the wakes are harder. Spray at the short line lengths bothers some skiers. The NWZ is much better at all line lengths, but really shines at 28' off and shorter. Spray is much better. The TSC1 is just a great hull. Small, soft wakes. Very little spray. Keep in mind that Correct Crafts before 1993 had wood stringers and you may have to deal with wood "rot" throughout the boat. So...my recommendation would be to start at 1993 and newer. Just the ramblings from a demented mind... JQ.

	JQ covered it well in the above post, I agree with all that he said. It would be hard for me to suggest anything before a NWZ to someone that describes themself as a "good rec slalom skier". Now of course in it's day it was quite a slalom boat, so I'm not saying you can't slalom behind a 73 Ski, of course you can. I have skied a lot behind I/O's like your 190 and the wake is ok, not too hard, if you are (likely) using the rear rope attach point it's hard to slalom all that well behind it. The pylon tow point of the '73 will be an improved rope/slack experience and you won't haul the stern of the boat around like you might in the 190. I think you'll find the wakes to be taller with a hard crest that you have to stay on edge to get through on that '70's hull. I know this is a "captain obvious" comment, but bring your ski and ask the current owner to let you ski behind it so you'll know what you are buying.

	I have a 1989 2001 and agree with the above comments, however the 2001 wake can be loads of fun if you are into wake jumping and just goofing around. I ski behind a 1998 and the wake is way flatter than my 2001 so for course skiing it will be much better.
