I may not be calling them by the right names but the motor drain holes, one in front on one side and one in back on the other, have rust collected in them. I take those two plugs out every year and never had a problem putting them back in until this year. It seems like they have collected with rust and the threads are not catching. How do I clean them out with out messing up the threads? Pictures attached.

First, clean up the threads as best you can with some penetrating oil and a wire brush. Then chase the threads with a 1/4" NPT tap to clean everything up well. If you install a 1/4" brass close nipple with brass plug (instead of cast iron) you will be dealing with non corroding threads in the future.

That worked, OReillys happened to have just that size and I didn’t even have to use anything other than my hand to get it started, it broke some rust away and I put some PB blaster on the plugs and used a wire brush to clean them and they went right in! Thanks, I knew I could get the right answer here.
