Did 1972 era Skier boats have mufflers? Are they necessary/required now? My boat likely did not have mufflers. How much quieter would mufflers be with a Chrysler 318 engine?

It might be a little more quiet but in my mind it would not even come close to being as bad a-s like it is now! My 318 without mufflers (it never had any to my knowledge) is music to my and many peoples ears.

Don't know if a big block makes any differences but my '89 is loud even with the mufflers still on.

My 95 SN had the factory "muffler" .... I removed it and ran straight exhaust hose into a Y and out the single port in back. Still fairly quiet at idle, but growls nicely on plane! Personally, I like a bit of rumble

Curious : Does this set up sound close to the older dual exhaust boats ? Could an untrained ear be able to distinguish between the two ?

Feels like I am hanging 10 but in reality - probably hanging 6.
