Like to hear any/all opinion, engineers and out of the boxers especially.
A 6 high x 24 wide x 36 long inch fuel tank is worth 22 gallons. Shape of the hull tank will balance out a change in width if that ends up being needed.. So a gas tank under the floor in front of the pylon. The battery box and cooler box would sit on top of that and be removable, like the cooler battery lids but a box on top. Battery portion would be higher than cooler portion but it would be under the dash, the cooler portion would be the observor seat base. The whole battery box/ observor seat base cooler box assembly could be L shaped so the cooler was the entire observor seat base. Whole point is for a walk thru the center transom. I would try it before cutting the transom so the big questions are; More forward cg ='s better/flatter wake ? What's right what's wrong, too bow heavy too squirrely ? The idea spawned a few years back when i learned about the V drive boat with the tank where the transmissiom, shaft and strut used to be. there will be no foam and the tank will rest on a belly board and bolted thru the stringers like i did on another boat (i'll dig up the pics ) The tank won't cost much and if the idea fails having a 20-25 gallon storage tank in the garage won't hurt. Again, i'm open to any opinions or mods you can articulate or draw |

Belly board for the ski boat will not be wood but idea is the same, Install belly board make a template order up the tank and glue on the dense rubber the tank manufacture sells and reccomends be installed for air circulation/drainage as their tanks have mounting tabs and the tanks are designed to rest on surface and get bolt mounted and not foamed in. BOOM ! Is the other reason i don't like foam |

New holes for fill and vent and some creative hose routing.
How much can you lower the SN transom before it becomes a flood risk? Might not be much (think coming off plane loaded). 22 gal in the front is only an extra 132 lbs so a small persons worth… won’t help top speed but won’t make a significant handling difference IMO. |

Say it was cut 10 inches above the floor in the middle say 18 inches wide.
Guess the easier question would be how much better is the ski wake right before the bboat runs outta gas with 2 people on the observor seat ? There is at least 6 inches of extra height above the tank in the 96 and the slanted transom with huge grab rail looks more like an obstacle course than a swim or skier friendly area, but i thought the correct craft trailer under the 79 was stupid until i seen how good it worked. |

Gas tank in the front, walk thru transom......sounds sorta like an Infinity ZX-1.
Except the ZX-1 had a mid mounted v drive with the prop and rudder farther forward than the typical ski boat. I'd include a link like the one below, but I wouldn't want to tempt you to do some radical stuff to the boat |

I thought the v drive in the middle ski boat, the tank was behind the engine under the floor.
I should read the link before typing Theres another ccf thread or mention about that boat, the rudder was midships too wasn't it ? Had to be, wonder if that prop wash got tamed and that boat made a flat wake. It's gonna be as crazy as rebuilding the 96 with the interior and running gear off an 01 or pre 01 hull. My crazy idea is the old man himself should have walked upon the shop floor amongst the men who worked for the old man himself and then taped off the water line of mid 70's nautique and said; You can change the bottom, you can lengthen it, widen it and make both a closed and open bow. But you will not change the entry, the sheer, the transom, the hull sides, the interior the windshield (except for the open bow) no lines, changed above that piece of tape PERIOD. We will pull 4-6 boats every year, they will have custom gel color and racing stripe with matching vynil, raise the price and start a lottery who gets to buy one of them. Any questions ? Yes you with your hand up, your fired. Any more questions ? No, good! get back to work. |
