Hello all and happy new year!

It is with a heavy heart that i will be parting ways this spring with my 1986 SN2001. Got another boat and some student loans to be paid Cry
I tried selling the end of last summer (i know, terrible time to try and sell) and not much luck. (i may of been stubborn and not ready to give her up)
I do have paperwork for it to be registered although it currently is not registered as i like on a private lake. A lot of newer parts over the years including breaker less ignition, carb, plugs and wires, etc. Kicker sound system. Just repainted and new decals last year as well as a new cover. I did run it most of last year so some small little chips in paint but i will touch up in spring. New trailer tires (not more than 300' on them, literally boat ramp and back) and wiring kit last year.

It has 1700 hours on hull but probably 100 engine hours after i pulled the motor and put new piston rings and gaskets in. it had a little blow by so i decided to put new rings in it. i get bored in the winter...

Like most things it does look better in photos and is showing its age a little but still overall decent shape and runs and sounds good.

Any thoughts on how much you all think this is worth and a reasonable offer i should take? overall thoughts?

$5Kish?? located in North Salem NY

I would say $5K to $7,500 maybe.   Good luck with the sale.
If selling right now in January those numbers are probably 2K high.  Boat prices are always low right now.

Ok great thanks. I’m holding off until spring and will register it and touch it up a bit.
I normally have bad luck selling things for whatever reason maybe I’ll list at $6500 and see what offers I get. Thank you!

My first ski nautique came from a private lake, the seller never registered the trailer or boat for 15 years.

He had to title it, pay taxes and overnight me the signed title once he got it so i could register it.
I also had to bring receipts for steel and trailer parts to get the correct craft trailer registered as homemade because he had no paperwork or bogus from the seller he bought it from paperwork which did me no good.

Luckily he did that or the boat and trailer would have been scrap.

You guys who never title/register your boat and trailer aren't gaining anything or saving any money.

If the dmv wants something from the seller you got it from good luck, the hull is a worthless yard ornament or dump it on an off ramp somewhere.
maybe 500 bucks for the engine trans running gear windshield, maybe !
The trailer is worth 100 bucks because it's 39 years old with no title or registration and no one wants it and you can't sell it as a correct craft model 3 in someone elses name, or yours cuz you never registered it.

If it runs and doesn't need a thousand bucks of tune up belts hoses prop shaft, strut bearings etc etc and why would it need that because everyone performs maintenance right before they sell a boat then it's worth 1500 bucks to someone on your lake who will never register it or ever need paperwork / or you could lie and sell it (looking for the title) to someone / or you can part it out, i.e. dis assemble and store every piece and part for years until each piece has been sold boxed and shipped 1 piece at a time, except the hull because the dump won't take it without a title and with all the cameras you'll get caught dumping it on the road, the tracks or down a boat ramp.
Or it's worth 600 bucks no title parts only as is get it outta here with only a hand written bill of sale which legally means jack-sh*t because you beat the system by never registering it in your name and then that's only if someone can get rid of the hull and wants the parts.

Good luck with the sale.

Edit in another 50 bucks because i see it's a prop gaurd trailer. 650 bucks.

A factory original boat is a dime a dozen and then you went and did all that to it. Doesn’t matter the water it floated on…

I had not ever faced the no title issue.  I did buy a 1978 that was stolen, used for 2 years and then recovered.  I received paperwork showing all proper numbers from the insurance company and got the boat registered in my name.  Several years later we painted the trailer and found the numbers on the trailer did not match the paperwork I received so the crooks stole a trailer and then stole a boat from different places.   They also ground the serial number off the rear of the Nautique so no way to know if it was really the boat that matched the paperwork.   It was stolen in Reno NV and recovered near Napa CA.   I had it about 8 years sold it in 1990.
Paperwork is important when buying.

I am registering boat and trailer before selling in the spring. I am aware of the benefits and value of having the paperwork. I bought it from a very good friend on the lake that I am still in touch with in case I run into any issues. His family bought the boat new in 1985

Sounds like an easy fix and good paper trail to the owners.  Nothing wrong with that.

If you can title and register the boat and trailer in your name then you will sell it.

My opinion is the trailer is worth more (and is certainly a negotiation point) registered as a correct craft which it is rather than homemade, and is only worth scrap value with no paperwork.

2 months ago my 1984 took me 3 trips to the dmv a dozen phone calls to the dealer, 1/2 dozen texts and emails from the dealer, me downloading and printing up at kinkos trying to satisfy the dmv who each time had different rules and hoops to jump thru and this is florida where boats and teailers and everything else gets dumped sunk and salvaged on a daily basis.

The capital C girls at the dmv i call them were C'ing at me with different rules and regs each with paperwork with different items that i showed them the other C wanted last week to no avail, 3 trips, price ya pay for being a clean shaven clean cut white male in todays world.
Can only imagine how heavy the period will be at the dmv in new york.

Good luck with the sale
I saved the different paperwork nonsense the C's gave me at the dmv, rather go back to catholic school and dodge the nuns

Geez Dan, you've got some anger going on there.  The guy is just asking what to list his boat for.

To the OP, best of luck with the sale.  I think 5k is probably a good sale for it.  You need to find someone, likely a young person, that wants to get on the water and ski with buddies on an inboard ski boat for as little as possible.  The thing that sells a boat like yours is to get someone interested in the boat, let them drive, maybe go for a ski, the excitement and sound and power will sell it because there's no other way to get a boat with that capability for such short money than to buy a 30-40 year old boat.  I hope you get what you are looking for, if too many kick the tires and don't buy you may have to drop to 4k.

He'll sell it no problem, they're special boats for sure. Bet your close to what it fetches.
