Just blows my mind the attention to detail !!
Feels like I am hanging 10 but in reality - probably hanging 6.

You cannot drive that beauty on a lake... Imagine all the law suits from people straining their neck from turning around!
Or even car accidents from drivers gazing at her on the trailer instead of focusing on the road...

My God, so much drama you are gonna cause in the future Alan!! Have mercy!

Kristof!!  lol

Good news, bad news, good news

I’m at a point where I’ll be happy to walk away from the boat for a while.  I’ve been hustling to get the boat stained and sealed because I knew I was going to have to abandon it for several months and wanted to get it sealed up and protected from moisture.  That goal has been achieved and I’m very happy with it.

Bad news,  my health problems have been consistent and nagging since last October including a week in the ICU recovering from a kidney infection.  My kidneys are failing and I am at stage 3b kidney failure.  Luckily I am scheduled for surgery on July 2nd that should rectify and possibly even reverse some of the damage.   Not looking forward to the 3 to 6 month recovery but I am thrilled to be getting this miserable part of my life behind me.  Unfortunately the procedure will have some lifetime physical limitations on me and I doubt I will ever ski aggressively again.  My love for boats and the water will not change so I’ll have to become a better driver and I’ll get back to work on the boat as soon as I can.

The other good news.  2 weeks from  now will  be the beginning of getting some normalcy back in our lives.  I am determined to be back kicking ass as hard as I can as soon as I can.  Until then you’ll have to get by with these last couple of progress photos.  Thanks for the support in my ever consuming passion.

Alan, thanks for sharing all that and best of luck with the surgery and recovery after.

Make sure your surgeon is as good at what he/she does as you are at what you do!Big smile  In all seriousness I'm glad you can look forward toward better times, modern medicine is amazing and I'm sure you'll be back at it sooner than you think.

Been back working on the boat for a couple of weeks now.  Got the rub rail built and installed then put four coats of varnish on.   I’m using a high build varnish that can be recoated without sanding up to 72 hours between coats.  That is really speeding up the initial stages of varnish.  I’m going to put down 12 coats of the high build before switching over to conventionally high gloss.

Sanded after the first four,  flattened out very nice and then put #5 down this morning.  Very happy right now, the blond color is really getting rich.

Engine has been sent off to the machine shop, hopefully get that back around the first of the year

Been wondering about this project. You’re doing a fabulous job! Doing layers of varnish is an art and it shows! Looking forward in seeing her completed!

13 coats of the high build varnish and then a good sanding. Boat is leveling out nicely.

Got the first coat of high gloss varnish on this morning and man is it looking good, until the dust settles into it anyway.  I’m going to put on a couple more coats and then move on to mechanical work and also start building the seat frames and flooring.  That will give the varnish a couple of months to harden and I’ll come back with a few finish coats in the spring .

Nothing ground breaking this week but I did get the boot stripe painted, started laying out the dashboard and got the steering/Rudder installed.

The boat has 15 coats of varnish and I’ve decide the sides are done.  5 more will go on the deck and transom once the name is applied.  Struggling to find someone that can come to me to do a hand painted/ gold leaf name and not sure I want to try it myself.  There are several that can do it but I have to bring the boat to them which wouldn’t happen until spring.  Lots to do in the meantime.

consider check with some area small vol fire depts around, they often have a contact that does  gold leaf house calls

So a few more items checked off the list.

First was to build the floor and seat bases,  we’ve got a material selected and an upholstery plan laid out that were pretty happy with.vinyl will be an aqua color from sunbrella and the white seat portions are going to be heat pleated in white.  The fabric swatch is showing up as a blue but it actually more on the green side.

Forward spray rails have been installed and finished thanks to some help from my wife crawling around on the floor for me, that seems to be getting harder to do every year.

Finally, that last beautiful coat of varnish was sanded off so I could tape and start caulking the seams.  Sort of a time consuming slow job but it is turning out good.  I couldn’t finish because it used a lot more caulk than I thought it would so I’ll get back to it next week to complete the other side.   Once this sets up for a few days the quest to get the final coat of varnish will begin, hopefully just another one or two will do it.

After that I’ll wet sand and buff then paint all the seams white.
