Looking for a hull hugger muffler for a 1997 Ski Nautique.
Anyone got any ideas that don't involve handing over nearly $1000 for one?? Suggestions gratefully received!

If you have the muffler, a welding fabricator could make you a Y pipe that fits in it's place with existing hoses.
If you dont have the muffler you can fabricate what you need from pvc pipe and just about any welder fabricator can reproduce it for you. You can piece something together from centek (see link) https://centekmarine.com/products/exhaust-systems/ If you have the muffler and it is leaking you could repair it, there are endless possibilities depending on what you have to work with, time, money, parts, skills, how hard does your wallet open is usually what it comes down to and on and on. Just don't don't ask what what it's worth or if you should bother registering the trailer. Ha! |

Thanks; Nope. don't have the muffler. PO removed it (presumably it failed) and replaced with the Y-pipe you suggest. Works great but it is pretty noisy so I'd prefer to go back to stock ideally.
What do you mean about trailer?? and what it's worth? You mean the muffler? They seem to be running about $900 which I guess is down to low volume manufacturing. Seems a lot for a fibreglass box!

I was being a smart ass and making a joke about some other members for other members who would read this thread regarding the what's it worth and trailer comment.
Not about your your boat or the muffler. Yep it looks like a nice job on the y pipe probably because the muffler is so expensive. You might want to do a search about the under water exhaust, i know that a member on here installed a 90 rubber elbow on his exhaust port and he says it knocked the sound down a bit. |

Install a fresh air exhaust (FAE). Way less noise, way less gas fumes to deal with being behind the boat.

I think I probably do need it although the muffler from a 98 seems different to a 97 isn't it? Certainly different part numbers.

Worry I didn't get back to you sooner. Already swamped this spring. Not sure if 98 and 97 are different. And i think the 96 model were the round tube that were right behind engine. I have one of those to.

Hi, no problem, thanks for getting back to me. Nautique parts shows different SKUs for the 96-97 and for the 98, and price is also different so although the pictures look identical to my eye, it suggests they are different parts? Not sure if anyone else on here can confirm?

I think i have what your are looking for. It is out of a 96. I am leaving for a vacation tomorrow. I will be home on May 29th. I will get a picture and the measurements for you then. I also have the fiberglass pipes if you need them too.

Thanks very much! If it's out of a bubble butt Ski (and NOT slant back) then I reckon that's the right thing. I've got the fibreglass downpipes (assume they are the same as in the photo above, which is my current install)
Obvious questions are: Does it seem solid? How much are you looking for? And are you happy to ship it? (probably to LA, maybe San Francisco depending on timing) Thanks again!
