Just gutted my '82 SN over the weekend. It wasn't as scary as I thought it would be. Anyway, I had to disassemble the housing for the throttle to remove the side panels. I'm guessing that putting it back together, will be harder than taking it apart. Does anyone have experience with this? Also, should I take time to replace any parts while I have it torn apart? (it worked perfectly before, but the boat is now 23yrs. old)

If it work properly without excessive play, just lubricate all the moving parts and put it back together. It will probably outlast the boat.

I have an 82 and have yet to remove the drivers side panel because of the throttle. I took the shift lever off, and the three screws that attach the panel.
You would think the throttle panel would slide off, but it doesnt. What do I need to do? thanks |

I first removed the driver's seat so access wasn't a problem. Next, Reach behind the side panel (behind the throttle housing}. You'll find a couple of nuts that attach the throttle and the transmission(brass nuts). Just remove them. Then you'll be able to remove the throttle box thing (sorry to use such technical jargon).
Thats how you get it off....getting it back together and functioning is something I haven't gotten to yet. Good luck. |
