    Posted: May-31-2007 at 6:59am
Good morning guys / gals. I have just completed a Pro-Tech ignition conversion and have the old (complete) Coil Pack setup. The boat was in limp-mode, so I am not sure what exactly went wrong. Not sure if the coils can be "separated" and tested, re-used etc. If anyone needs this complete kit, let me know. I have a 1993 Pro-Boss with 450 hrs. Also included will be a brand new set of 8mm wires. The wires were bought to replace the old ones, and were actually on the boat for one day before the ignition problem.

Yes, 91 Sporty,
it ran fine then it would go into limp-mode. I am told that is what they do. As soon as the coil pack gets hot, that's it. I called Discount Inboard Marine (they are the BEST), and they told me to check a couple of sensors. I disconnected them and it did not make a difference. So I assummed it needed to be replaced. Got the kit, and my mechanic did the job for me. It's been fine. Are you still having problems?

pb,
yea, make me an offer. I do not need the parts. I have a brand new set of 8mm wires (PleasureCraft) with it. The wires were on the boat about one day (less than an hour of use). I do not need the old parts. Not sure if you can inter-change a dead coil with one of my good ones. May save you having to do the conversion. The conversion will cost you $500.00 for the kit, plus labor.

Yes arondeau, still having problems but I don't think it's the coil pack itself because both sides of coil pack shut down at the same time. It might be the module. I'm assuming your module is still good but your coil pack failed?

hey sporty,
yea, I am not sure what exactly went on my system. All I know is that it was not any of the sensors. I disconnected each one individually and tried running the boat. That's when I decided to do the conversion since it would have to be done anyhow. I have my old components if you want them. Make me an offer, and you can have a brand new set of wires with it.

sporty,
good luck with the kit. My mechanic did the job in about 2 hours. My boat runs fine with it. Let me know how you made out.

Munday,
"stock the parts" on what? A new conversion kit? I paid $500.00 for my kit from Discount Inboard Marine (they are on the web). I have a "used" kit that I do not know if the good parts can be reused. I'll sell mine for $50.00 + shipping. I do not have any use for them since my conversion. I also have a brand new set of Pro-Tech 8mm wires. I paid $45.00 for them. You can have them for $25.00. I used them for about one day to diagnose the ignition problem.

I have a 1992 Ski Nautique with hat same ignition system. My motor was running on 7 cylinders. I went ahead and converted the ignition system too. I have the old system I want to sell. I do not hve the plug wires though. I used them on another one of my motors. If anybody is interested, please contact me and make me an offer. It's not doing me any good and someone may be able to part it out to repair their system.
