Put the new prop on, that went smoothly but noticed we have a slight rudder vibration. When I reach underneath and hold where the arm from the rudder and the cable meet it stops the rudder from vibrating. So I struggled but was able to reach under and I thought tighten the two bolts, worked great the first time we took it out but back to wiggling again. Any tricks to getting those completely tightened down, maybe I should replace the bolts/nuts? Also wondering down the steering cable toward the engine is a ball joint thing (sorry can't figure out what it's called) that really has a lot of play in it, is that normal or need to be replaced. Trying to figure out how to change the size of the pictures I took so I can post them.

Thanks for any help/suggestions,

Peggy

Peggy, Tightening the packing gland that is on top of the rudder port usually helps or stops it. It is just like the prop shaft packing and seals out water. The rudder packing however can be tightened quite tight because it isn't rotating constantly like the prop shaft does. You will need some large pipe wrenches or large slip joint pliers. I'm not sure what 2 bolts you are reffering to. If you tighten the packing, keep turning the helm to make sure you don't over tighten it.

That is normal Peggy, don't worry about it. It needs to swivel that much because of the throw from side to side of the rudder.
When people run down to the lake to see what's making that noise, you've succeeded.
