What did you and Marshal do to piss off Barney at GL? I'm up north and looked into the sound level ordinace. The word I am getting is that it is indeed a tool that can be used with the discresion of the officer. It was intended to go after the extreamly loud hydros and straight pipe jets that I mentioned before. Our patrol would first need a complaint and then go looking for the boat and do the test. It has never happened on our chain of lakes!! I asked if I should be worried about my 54,64 or 77 and was told that never unless there was a exhaust pipe sticking out of the dog house making a lot of noise!
It will be interesting what feedback we get from GL. |

this was the question i asked.MoJo seems to think that it was about his reg. being out of date.I have mixed feeling about this and my return to their fair city.
Really ain't wild about driving 2250 miles to have Barney "LISTEN" to my boat. The fine is a little steep too. Karen and I are waiting before we committ to next year till this SOUND thing is resolved. I spoke to a DNR agent and:It is up to the officer as tohow the test is conducted, and whom he stops for said test.........boat dr |

They government loves to leave things up the the law officers descresion you can write more tickets that way. The person that recieves the ticket has not a leg to stand on as there is no set standard for enforcement. Wonder what it would do to change GL authorites mind if everyone canceled their reservations??? I am not saying I am but that would be funny.. I am sure the city council can convince barney to take a week end off from being an A-hole. |

Just my $0.02
Don't threaten to move it. Move it. For at least one year. Tell the business owners you all patronized why it is being moved. Let the business owners compare numbers year to year. Their voices will be much louder than any of our boats. Wouldn't it be better to be courted than in court? Ok, I'm done. Mike |

Billy,
That's not true.. I had originally thought that Marshall could have been pulled over due to a registration issue (This is where "Barney" typicallly starts.. Reid since reiterated that it was in fact a pull over due to noise, and I agreed and believed him. It wasn't until afterwards did the sheriff found out there was a potential problem with registrations.. He was indeed rude, to the point, and "Matter of factish"..... I was originally dumbfounded to hear he was treated with such dissrespect.. I've run my 70's nautiques out there for years now with nothing more that a wave.. These boats are so loud I can't hear my kids in the back seat when they scream for a soda... I have taken steps to meet with Bill Munsey, and will try to get involved with attending the city council concerning this important issue. I was going to meet with Bill during our last weekend up in GL but he was missing part of the weekend from the hotel, and we didn't cross paths.. I will follow up and see what can be done.. I was out there with the 76' all weekend, along with the open piped Formulas, checkmates, and wooden Cris Crafts and a slew of other loud boats.. I belive this is exactly as described, an Isolated incident..They got pulled over because they were a lone lamb and an easy target when no one was around to compare noise levels with.. A "sitting duck" if you will.. There is no way this guy is going to start in and ticket every single person out there, when noisey boats are all around.. If in fact this is not going to be the case and with the aid of the Chamber President we can't find resolve with the sherif, then everyone will be in the know and make an educated decision to stay or move or desolve the region's reunion.. Simple as that... More soon once we've approached GL's Sherifs etc.. Moj' |

Well my opinion is this, we all agree that for the most part are group is mostlikely the safest boat group on the water. If they want to single out any one of our boats or all of our boats then we should move the event to an area that will be happy to have our business and our noise.
I think we should wait and see what the council has to say, but it is still up to barney's mood on whether or not to write citations for noise. One last point tell a cop what he can and can not do, we will not like the results trust me. He will just bother us with other crazy non sense. There wont be any barefoot runs at the sandbar like there were this year because barney will be on babysitting duty right at the sandbar. |

I asked the DNR personally the weekend Reid had his problem about skiing back there and it was a definate NO, you break the 100' rule on both sides and if anyones tied up in there no way. I too thought it was pretty cool but they'll get you sooner or later. I suggest we just let this go for a bit and enjoy the last few weeks of northern boating while Dave and I decide how to proceed. And we're not the only ones who have to deal with these type of issues PN Thread |

I never ment to imply that this summers pull was legal. I just ment it wont happen next year if barney has a hard on for handing tickets out to are group.. I know you and Mojo are working hard to resolve this issue if possible and we thank you for it. I just think people are thinking along the same lines I am. LOng way to travel to be hasseled. But I am hoping everything will be ok as I would love to return to GL next summer. |

Reid,
I fought my 'too close to a pier' ticket on GL via a letter and a few phone calls. I received a 1 year suspended sentance and saved around $140. The DA seems to roll over if you present a well written argument. I suggest you do the same. You can argue that your exhaust is original to the design of the boat and subjective enforcement if he didn't get a dB reading of your sound level. I'm willing to fight as well as my Classic has a good rumble to her. If we can't get a decent resolution, I'll be firing off a few letters to the editor of the local newspaper and contacting our alderman or other elected officials. The DNR in Wisconsin is largely unaccountable to any elected governing body and they are acting like emporers. I'm all for safe boating (a 13 year old boy from my home city of Wauwatosa was killed in a tubing accident last week.) But lately, they seem far more interested in generating revenue than enforcing safe boating. Sorry for rambling but I'm pissed off and embarassed that one of our friends was treated badly on my home lake. |

Damn f**king right Steve, These guys came a long way to have a little fun for the weekend, minded their own business and got their f**king balls busted. The boat sat at the campground like a wounded beast the rest of the weekend, f**king pathentic. Made me feel like sh*t all weekend. It's bullsh*t and I'm really starting to get pissed that one indiviual can have such a negative impact on any community, especially our community. Over the past 2 years we've been able to get people together from just about around the country to come out and share our love for these boats, family, friendship and watersports together and if everyone wants to come back to GL then Mojo and I will fight to make it happen. That's all we can do for now and we'll let everyone know how it's going to work, please don't hold your breath , it's going to take some time. I've been mad enough about this over the last week to throw my hands up and say say screw it but then I sit back with a beer or four and remember one of the best days of the summer, Thursday afternoon when the crew started pulling in to GL. That was an awesome site and if you missed it I feel for you. Cool boats and cooler people. I do not want that to go away so lets stop the negative talk everyone and start throwing out useful suggestions on how to make next year better. Don't waste your energy on this clown, Who wants to step up and start a new thread on suggestions for next years reunion. We need to build not tear down. |

Alan,
My post was not meant to be negative, just pragmatic. I was employing my tried and true method of voting with my wallet. My apologies if I conveyed that poorly. It is one of the limitations of the written word - inflection and tone do not convey. I have not been to a reunion (although I tried for NE this year), but I have been involved in assisting in putting some pretty large events together, so I appreciate the effort any organizer expends. I sit here in the DC suburbs scratching my head over how I can contribute to building something. I offer my services, if you can think of anything I can do, I am at your disposal. I probably will never make it to a reunion that is not on the east coast, but I love hearing the stories and seeing the pictures, so I feel I am as invested in GL as the guys that make it. Mike |

Oh no you didn't, Quinner....
....turn on your sound.... After a recent reunion of rouges, a GL Sherrif was quoted as saying recently Thus initiating Returning to the scene of the crime, an unsuspecting Marshall and ReidP were told and also and finally. They replied politely only to be told and to For the remainder of the weekend, they were advised for which they replyed. 81 and Mojo quickly confered and admitted. Word of the incident came back to the community. Pete observed while the BoatDr said and. All this defeatism caused Quinner (Sgt at Arms) to say and So, Alan and Mojo started planning. And they planned their retaliation and planned and planned Which caused Hollywood to say to Johnny who replyed. And, in the end, we all returned to GL because |

Hahahaha Steve, awesome bud !!! Hey it was great to hang with you, Dee and the kids this weekend.. Sorry we couldn't put it together to BBQ and get the girls to play as we got "lit"..... Also, I hear the boat took a nasty hit out there.. Glad it's pretty much the end of boating season. You'll have the long, cold winter to fix it... !!!!
OK, I talked with Bill for some time last night. First, he wants to extend his thanks once again for spending the weekend in GL again this year. He was honored to have our Friday meeting there at his place.. He promised me that he'd talk personally with the ,and or the powers to be, along with some DNR friends of his to see what can be done to protect our group from hassle next year. He'll get back to me if we need to attend any town meetings etc to maybe help answer questions etc. about our group. He feels confident that something can be done to help us out, but did also at the same time tell me that even if we can avoid the noise ordanance, we'd still be watched for any other infractions that would breach safety laws etc... Barney still going to do his job in that respect. He'll get back to me in a couple of weeks at the latest.. Keep your reservations in tact, plan your "Green Lake Threepeat" for 2008. We'll make happen, and with some new twists and cool stuff to do while there... Stay positive, and continue to get the word out....... Moj' |

Reid, Here are the lakes I boat on without any problems with Barney!! I thought at one time you were sort of interested in Wisconsin lakes. To give you a idea of size, lake 15 is 2200 acres. with the exception of lake 15,17,18 and 19 you can boat between all the rest. Because we are not a flowage or a reservoir, the lake levels have a minimum. With the dry summer, the dam has been shut all summer and we are down but only about 10" |

We also have to take in consideration that if someone talk's to DNR how will they take it..???What i mean is that if it pisses them off and they decide to single our group out(and that wont be hard to do)with silly little tickets for minor bullsh*t or even major thing's like DUI because you know alot of us will be drinking.
Just my 2 cents worth. I dont mind the drive to Green Lake and want it to be there next year but dont want to be hasseled by the DNR. Alan And Moj....You guys are our Lawyers and represent us well!!! Good luck!! I'm on your side and hope for the best. Go get em Moj & alan Rain dong & Quinner.....You guy's kill me |

Yeah, right now Paul, the Chamber President is aware of what's going on and will speak both with the sheriff as well as friends he has withing the DNR on our behalf.. Within the next couple of weeks we'll have an idea on what tolerance there will be going forward..
He's confident that something can be worked out or "understood" while we're there, but only time will tell.... Moj' |

85 here.
Hope you guys can get things worked out. New to the site and looking forward to next years reunion at GL. If it can't, Ill second Pete's note about Three Lakes WI - it is absolutely beautiful there as well and so many lakes to run. Besides there's a CC dealer on the chain. |

Pete,
Yes, Bill and the sheriff both know what we've brought 2 years running... Again, I don't anticipate this going much further, as I see it as the Sheriff was just being a "D**khead" that day,,, that or Reid "mooned" him before he had his first cup of joe in the morning Moj' |

85, Fill me in on your 3 Lakes experience. I've been going up there all my life and hope to retire there one of these days. My grandfather bought land there in 1940 of coarse the land was just a little cheaper then too!! The other nice thing is that it hasn't been turned into a big giant tourist town like Eagle River or Minocqua. YET!!

Honey Rock camp, 8 yrs old watching the Nautiques pull the older kids, sitting there drooling. Northernaire at the waterski shows, we had a place in the second bay on long lake heading north. Eating many times at the Pine Isle watching the cool boats going by. And.. going to Water Craft Sales to see the new and older Correct Crafts. The lakes, man the lakes are awesome, run for hrs and never see the same shorline. Hitting the slalom course by the the Northernaire. My dad has a buddy in a Chris Craft club - they go there anually.
