I just though I'd mention that our chapter of the ACBS (Blackhawk) is having our biggest show this weekend and open for public viewing Saturday and Sunday till 1:00 pm. We have about 60 wood boats registered (and some classic glass) this year and it is looking like the weather is going to be beautiful. It is located in the Abbey harbor in Fontana Wisconsin on Lake Geneva. If anyone is in the area and has the time, it is worth seeing these boats.

I would say that the majority of the boats will be on land and in the water. The show however opens formally at 10:00 so there with still be a few launching and being set up on the lawn.

Still being launched or being set up on land!!! And you always have a couple people who can't seem to get there on time. The rest of the classic glass are in Reid's storage building!!!

Chris, None this year. I skip years as well as shows to give them some variety. I have alternated the 54 and the 64 in the past. I also made the decision to go to GL so I will only be going up for Saturday morning and part of the afternoon. I would normally stay at the Abbey and make it a 3 day weekend.

Pete- Would love to see some pictures from this event! 60 boats is a pretty large show. Would like to come see for myself, but the commute from Seattle may be a little long!

If you check out the Northwest chapter of Fiberglassics on Monday, you should see some great pictures of our on the water meet this weekend. I will have two of my glass fin boats there for some fun!

Have a great weekend!

Brian, I'm getting ready to go and I am taking the camera. I'll look at the fiberglasics. We will have a couple of the fiberglassic guys at this show as well. I talked with one of the show directors late last night. The # of registered boats sky rocketed last week. We are at 85 now! I guess some were waiting to see the weather forecast. Being late in the year the weather is one of the chances our chapter takes but we need to wait for some boats (renters) to be removed from the slips for the season.

The final count was 88. Lots of different boats this year.

Eric, Saw a very early Paragon hydraulic hooked up to a flywheel forward 283 marinized by Chris. I would have gotten a picture but I forgot my camera! This is even after I talked about it! Was Paragon the first to come out with the hydraulic? What year was that?

Sorry I missed anyone that may have stopped by.

Actively is a bit strong, but yes. Unfortunately, it's prioritized twards the bottom of my project list.

There is a great antique boat center in Cincinatti and they have a nice web site too. I believe the address is antiqueboat.com. They break their offerings down in two broad periods and use (runabout vs. utility). They also have classic glass boats as well. I have actually been to the shop and watched them working on a boat bottom. They had probably 30 classics in two buildings and the boats are gorgeous. It is a great site to see some beautiful boats. I actually got the idea for my interior from one of the boats I saw on there.

This past weekend I finally saw a '60 Coronado out on the lake. The owner was idling waiting for his trailer to pull it for the season. It had a BB Chrysler and man was that thing loud! He had restored it 20 years ago, but I don't think they did the bottom as the bilge kicked on about 3 times in the 5 min. I spoke to him. The worst thing about the exchange - I was in a pontoon.

James, The Century hull was a single plank board on batten design. It is a very light method of construction but also one of the things that made the Century's fast. The other was they were never afraid of putting the biggest engines they could find in their boats! The bad thing about a single plank, is it is a bottom that does rely on soaking to swell the wood to make it "watertight"! They really never are!!

I wish there was a classic boat show around me. I am jealous looking at those pictures. It is one thing to see the boats in pictures or even on a trailer, but to see them in their element. WOW.

Well I was a little late to the party and was walking around the docks at the Abbey this past weekend. It looked like a Cobalt Reunion! The only CCs I saw were two 236s.
