I have experience fixing cars brakes but this is the first time I need to fix brakes on a trailer. I have surge drum brakes on my Remlin trailer. I recently purchase this trailer but I believe the brakes are not working properly. Does anybody knows where I can guide a maintenance guide for it? I tried to remove the oil cap but it won't come out. Is that just a screw type cap. How can you test the system? Or bleed them?

Go to Dexteraxle.com and check out the Resource Library and the Products & Literature sections. You should be able to find enough info to help you out.
If you're familiar with drum brakes on a car, the trailer brakes won't be any problem. Once you get the drum off, you'll see the typical spring arrangement and brake cylinder. You bleed the brakes by loosening a fitting on the back side of the cylinder. Look thru the info on Dexteraxle.com, and I bet you'll find everything you need. Here's an example of what you can find: http://dexteraxle.com/i/u/1080235/f/Brakes/12_x_2_in._Brakes_80_res_2-05.pdf I had mine apart last spring, and chances are, the brake cylinder is locked up. Championtrailers.com also has a Technical Assistance section. Glen |
