A friend of mine has a 1977 Mustang that he just repowered this past year. The boat runs very well and he is intersted in getting it setup for wakeboarding. He knows that he needs a tower, sacs., and needs to get the interior reworked. His college age kids will be at home all summer and want to use the boat frequently. What I am asking for is suggestions for best tower for the money(I was thinking Monster), best way to setup ballast(I have a SAN and don't know much about weighting a closed bow), and best way to get the interior looking presentable. Upgrading to a new boat is not an option, they are the origional owners, and have sentimental value. He does not want to spend lots of time on this project and just wants to get it running for the summer. Let me know what your guys think.

So....no wakeboarders on this forum....Forget the tower and ballast system. As far as the interior, how much money/time does is take to replace a carpet? is it a really big deal? How about seats, do you guys do your own seats or do you have an upholstry shop take care of that for you?

Alan, I just replaced the carpet and upholsty. I did the carpet myself, it took about two days give or take. Nothing real hard, I just removed the two boards that make up the side stowage, seats, engine cover, and forward sole(foot rest area that angles toward the bow, I also recovered this piece individualy and installed after the rest of the carpet was installed). I coverd the two stowage boards with carpet(they had the wood grain vinyl). I also covered the rear deck separately(the one with the inspection plate) just to make access to the shaft seal a little easier. I used the old carpet as a rough template for the new carpet. All together I tink I spent about $200 on the carpet. For the seats and coming pads I had a friend who does some upholstering to help, so I don't really know waht it would cost, I did buy the material, but I got it wholesale ($110). We didi it in an afternoon. Good luck. Hal

Monster is a great tower for the money, overtons also has one that is not collapsable but it does come with built in wakeboard racks (typhoon I think) which unclutters the boat. Another option, if they want to keep the classic boat look when not pulling wakeboarders is a skylon, they make connections so you don't have to change out the old school top end of the ski pole. As for the ballast system, unless they are amazing wakeboarders, a regular "tube-style" fat sack would work great, I am not sure what kind of back seat the mustang has but I have seen them mounted under rear seats in the past. This is the setup my friends boat has (but it isn't a correct craft)
