From experience, the foam will dry out IF the floor is removed or significantly removed and the boat is left uncovered (but not in rain) for an extended period. I tested mine by digging a few holes in the foam and discovered it dry to the bottom. I then replaced the dug out holes with pour foam and replaced the floor.
With that said, the new foams are closed cell so you may wish to go ahead and replace all the foam. Some choose to remove the foam and leave it out, but I tend to believe the foam serves two purposes and hence should be replaced: Bouyancy (sp) and sound deadening and originally a third: structural floor support. |

I removed the foam in a 78 American Skier this spring. There is no way it would ever dry out because it was completely enclosed except for at the edges of the floor where the water was getting in. I did remove much of it in the bow at the bottom of the hull and after a couple of weeks, the foam I left above it did drain and dry out.

How long will the foam stay soaked in one of these old CC's. My boats been out of the water for about 6 months and it's time to return home to do some work prior to skiing. Could the foam have dried out by now and make me think I don't have a problem? Should I assume it's OK, ski for a week and then check or should I just remove it while I'm already working under the floor?
