I was just being nice when I mentioned earlier that I didn't care for the styling. Now, being completely honest, I think it may be the worst case of so called "styling" on a boat that I have ever seen. Malibu was in the toilet in my mind before. Now I have just flushed that toilet!!

Do you really want a boat to look like a car or do you want a car to look like boat??

Or, you can have a vehicle that was designed as both!!

I saw one of those car/boats on lake Tippy way back when. People did not know what to think. They thought people had lost their mind taking their car in the water.

The Amphicar car club is quite large. There were 3046 imported into the USA and it has become quite a collectors item. Not the easiest to restore because the only spare parts made came into the states but then all the tooling was scraped. Club members like to show up at the ACBS shows and it is always a crowd pleaser.

Amphicar history

Steve, People in Indiana must live very sheltered lives!!

By the way, Amphicars have bilge pumps!! They are difficult to keep dry inside.

I think those amphi cars bring big bucks now. There are 2 of them in Maine I see on occasion.

Pete, Imo, Malibu made a nice boat, and a few, particularly the later Sportsters were the best. Unfortunately, once they hit their stride success wise, they started turning out SUV bling boats with horrid color schemes and dropped the classics.

Check these 2 out. The red one screams

I had a chance to ride in a malibu similiar to the one on the left. I tried to keep an open mind while riding in it, but id definitely was no CC. I didn't care for it at all. Just my opinion.

Another link to the COrvette boat with some more pics. Not everybody's cup of tea but some pretty darn nice detailing.Boat pics

I personally like and would love to crank down the river in it,biggest problem I have with it is even though it's fast for an inboard for an $80,000 penis extension it should be faster.

Alan, have you seen any top speed numbers? I didnt see any in that article or anywhere else yet.

Im guessing that the 505hp version will get over 60 pretty easily, but thats purely speculation.

It may go over 60, but I bet it's not as fast as you would hope.

I second that Riley.
Real nice boats to slalom behind too.
I'll also second that the original design Corvettes were far better than that new mess!

Actually the description "Corvette" was used of a boat way before it was used of a car.
Always fun to check the dictionary -- Webster's = 1: a warship ranking in the old sailing navies next below a frigate 2: a highly maneuverable armed escort ship that is smaller than a destroyer. (F.1636).
Pretty sure those didn't have tail lights either.
I agree with several here anyway; the old ones look cooler, but I always thought the tail light thing was a little funny. Sort of cool, but more "funny." They (Malibu) might have done better to just do a Vette inspired boat by just mimicking the engine packages and some interior styling. I think most Vette's have a sort of boat like shape already anyway. Look at 'em! I think that was actually part of Zora's idea wasn't it? The Stingray in particular was trying to look like some aquatic thing (a Stingray). I think I've heard that the little air vents (of the older ones) behind the front wheels were supposed to look like the gills of a shark or a ray or something.
Man, how picky I'm getting! To suggest that anything that is sleek, shiny red, and has 400 to 500 hp "isn't pretty cool" just seems "wrong" now that I'm actually thinking about it!?!?!?!??

Those fake vents on the side of the hull are ridiculous. At least malibu kept the horrid tribal graphics and forward arch tower off it. Even with the tail lights its still better lookin that the new tribal wakeboard junk malibu vommits out. I'd like to see the guy that buys a boat with tail lights, leds, and subs. I wonder if there is a cup holder that will hold his zima. That boat can be be described as the bastard child of a really hot chick that had a little too much too drink one night (corvette) and a fat useless dude (malibu).

Tim, I may be mistaken but I thought someone said mid 50's. IMHO even if it runs low 60's that's still an aweful lot of money for a boat without much purpose. I'd still take it for a spin though.

I am not a big fan of bling over functionality, and though parts of the boat are moderately cool (LS7, racing seats...) overall I would have to give it the 'ole thumbs down.

The Shelby Donzis are really cool, but I seem to recall some controversy surrounding them when they first came out. Carroll Shelby is pretty protective of his name; I remember reading at one point that he wanted to demand a $10,000 royalty on every kit Shelby Cobra out there.

Well, I just saw Bu's Corvette boat at the boat show. I didn't care for the boat based upon the photos, and having seen it in person, I like it even less. It was certainly drawing a lot of folks to take a look though. To each his own. BKH

Thanks Pat,

Probably wouldn't even be a big storm in parts of the country, but for us, it was a big deal. About 3.5 inches of rain the first 24 hours. Not sure how much it rained yesterday. Also had winds of 50-80mph and gusts up to 100. In our town, mostly an inconvenience, some power outages, trees down, etc. However, in a small town outside Reno, a levee broke and flooded the whole town. Not so good. BKH

Brian, to us down here , your right only a dress rehearsal.Hurricane Danny gave us 12" in 12hrs. w/ the same winds,100+.
Seems Nevada got 2to3 feet in their homes, sad by any account.Levees do breach here too. and when you are below or slightly above sea level that can present a major flood plane......
Katrina and Rita gave us a total of 50",what would Yall do with 50"in a week???????????

I think (at least I hope) the Katrina break was a once in lifetime disaster. Hard to imagine we could see that type of devastation even if we were to see 50" in a week. Still, our infrastructure here is not set up for that type of rain, which I know hurricane states could see in any given year. To answer your question, I don't know what we'd do with 50" in a week, but it wouldn't be good.

Know just what you mean dr..Patti and I have seen it first hand. Been to Moss Pt and Passgagulla (sp?) MS 3 times since the storm thru the organization we work with...repairing homes and roofs. Totally unbelievable unless you see it first hand. Of course everyone knows about New Orleans or Boloxi but lots of small towns like these with no resources got hit as well.

Gary,

I'm guessing that car isnt around any more and I'm guessing you wish it was. Right before I started driving, my dad sold his 1969 British Racing Green, convertible GTO. That stings.
