This Ram-Lin trailer, among the other 100 things I hate about it, has a very tall axle for whatever reason. It's a torsion axle, so you'd think it would be nice and low-slung, but it's not. It's probably also partially due to the Titan coupling which is mounted basically atop the main tongue structure.

The hitch mount on my 2006 4Runner V8 is pretty low- the V8 models have a different hitch mount than the V6 models that for whatever reason is probably 3-4" lower to the ground. Before I had installed an air lift kit, I used a hitch with a 6" rise to it. This put the trailer just about level behind the car without the air bags. With the air lift kit inflated, the trailer actually tilts nose-up a little bit with this hitch now. It tows fine- I just did 650 miles with it like this. Still, the 6" rise hitch looks a little ridiculous and it also puts the trailer probably 8" further back from the car so I tried out my standard-rise hitch (now that I've got the lift kit), upside down, which puts the trailer on a slight down-angle. Am I looking for dead-level or is slightly down OK?

I'm probably over-complicating this but I'm just curious what you guys think on the topic of hitch height.

I think a little nose-low is fine- we've towed that way for years with our CC/Ramlins.

From the '92 brochure:

nose down is good,

keeps the boat snug to the bow stop
good tongue weight
prop guard clearance
easier loading/unloading

I usually try for 18" to top of ball height. BKH

Additional bonus of a nose-down is probably a more level trailer for loading at the ramp. Thanks for the input guys.

Tim, that brochure pic is exactly what it looks like.
