I hadn't had the Tique out lately.

I have a closed cooling system I peaked at it the level before I went out & was a little low- But I figured it was ok- as I thought I would only idle.

I ran her at slow speed for 20 minutes or so went to get her on a plane & the exhaust seemed to get Hot in the first minute or 2 IE: Smell

The motor didn't

I didn't want to open the system. But I did check the raw water strainer. Did seem to dirty. ( I know vague)

So is it a no brainer low Fluid in a closed system will over heat the exhaust right away? But not the motor...The motor seem cool but I did idle back to the dock 10 minute ride & it seemed to cool down?

Hopefully I can get the time to top of the system with some fluid tomorrow & see if that's the deal-

But I thought I'd get some pointers of what to look for.

It's the exhaust type that exits over the top of the manifold...
Thanks

What closed cooling system do you have? There are two basic types. The simplest is closed cooling on the engine only with raw water cooling the exhaust manifolds. On the other version, the closed cooling includes the manifolds.

This is confusing: "It's the exhaust type that exits over the top of the manifold"

I have a feelng you have a RWP problem or related issues with raw water.

I would say it would be exceedingly rare for a tique to have closed water cooling that didnt use raw water for the exhaust manifolds. Therefore as Pete points out it your failure mode is what would be expected with any loss of rw.. the engine would also overheat eventually but first it would need to warm up all the fluid in the secondary system. YOu could have impellor issues or blockage issues, or both but you are not getting raw water past the heat exchanger.

I ran It a little this morning the Starboard side is the one getting hot. I'm starting to think It may need a new riser if it's just   blocked- Water is getting to it- Work got goofyso I had to quit playing I'll post some pics later of where I get a break thanks- I guess my description was that it just wasn't the log still manifolds-

I've got the idea now! Thanks.

Yes, you may need to pull the one side to check for blockage but check hoses first.

Well I had some time & I got the hose pulled back from the riser-

I had a small amount of gravel size rust fall out......

I figure to push a riser you could just ruin your motor so that would be a fail.

I do have a set of Edelbrock logs but I haven't figured out if they would work in a closed system application?

Plus I run in brackish water & sometimes salt.

I also have a set of stainless risers with 4" reducers & some 3-4"   reducers ... That may just end up looking terrible....

Was a closed cooling system even an option in a 78 Tique? My 75 Nautique had a raw water system & OMC logs. The install is all jam up as it was a crate motor replacement by the previous mowner. It's just a little goofy in the exhaust hose routing from the risers to the baffles.

Just kinda rambling & thinking out loud as I contemplate just replace the riser or clean up the exhaust while I have a problem....

Thanks in advance on your thoughts.........

I sure would not use the Edelbrock logs as they are aluminum. It's not something you want with salt water.

If the only issue with your existing is the one side running hot then I'd go after the problem. Since you had gravel size rust come out, I pull it and see whats plugged up.
