The seats in my boat were store-bought junk when I bought it years ago. I'll put original seats in eventually but I made this bench seat with storage underneath in the meantime; it matches the engine cowling and its definitely cushy: What ya think?

Nah, I don't really need one; its cooler without.
My wife just leans against the dash mostly. She also likes it because she can face either way comfortably. The storage is nice too:  It'll get me thru a couple of seasons. |

If that works for your back, then Kool. I would have to bring my Ole Miss stadium seat to last more than 15 minutes. The storage is sweet. Nice work.

+1 I hope you like how high that is going to be. I'd wear a cup while driving... I also see an issue trying to lean back to rest against the dash... Looks like stiches in the back of the head..
I'd consider lowering it in Half... JMO. Construction looks nice !!! Moj |

ah, well, I would rather have original-type seats and I'm keeping my eye on the parts listings. but I had to have something in the meantime and I kind of like how it turned out. |

Agree with the above... Craftsmanship looks good but functionality looks limited unless the boat is at rest. At least it's easily reversible.
Shoot me an email when you're ready to go with original seats. You'll be old and gray before an early 70's drivers bucket and frame pops up for sale. Observer seat is a little easier- Christine's sells the frames and the bases are ply. I have the ability to reproduce the drivers side. Trbenj@gmail.com |

The base is 12" tall.
I wanted it higher so I'd have my head above the windshield. (Its hot up-river) I hope I don't hit anything hard enough to give anyone stitches.

Not sure if you've ever had the pleasure of owning a classic CC of this vintage, but they are lovingly called "nut breakers".. The flat bottom isn't very forgiving, and unless your river is flat 100% of the time, you will get some shockwaves that will go right up your spine when landing over a rough wake etc. If they are sitting backwards in that seat, hitting anything will make for a backwards lashing for sure. With no backrest, one will crack open their melon on that windshield for sure... The driver has the luxury of holding on... But you best have some type of athletic supporter on,, My eyes are watering just looking at the proximity to the bottom of the wheel... We just want you yo be safe and enjoy the boat.. We've all logged in hundreds of hours in these old tugs.. Please be careful.. Maybe a test ride without the significant other would prove worthy at first !!! Have fun out there, and happy boating !!! We've had it out a couple of times with the bench. Its much better than the previous seats. We don't hit the big water much anymore and tend to only cruise the river these days because its not as rough and jarring. As for the steering wheel, my knees hit it first

Just. wondering,when you punch it to get on plane how much stress your weight is pulling on the steering assembly every time, particularly if you're a big guy. And if your wife did face forward, seems like she'd need a grab handle to avoid falling back.. real nice craftsmanship, betcha with some photos & drawings you could fab some regular seats up pretty easy.

We're not big and I don't think I hang on the steering wheel. I hadn't thought of that but I'll see once we get back out there. Hopefully this weekend... I like making stuff |
