Had it on John. I have to confess I am nervous about going out the back ( or out the front, whatever you call it going this way). I often bail for no reason just to avoid the possibility of a fall. I have to get over that. I actually feel more secure behind the boat, maybe because I think the boat is cutting down the rough water. |

Well that just means you must be driving good John.
Eddie has seen me fail like 5 in a row one day on the Winter Haven chain. The driving was good, the water was not. I wanted the challenge. It put me in my place. |

gotta drive extra good when I am pulling skiers like you or Eddie...don't want the driving to be a factor. But I pride myself on my driving at all times. Been at it for awhile. When you grew up pulling my brother...you wanted to be the best you could be..all the time. Lots of good drivers in our club that I learned from.

Went out this am with Kristin and her "friend boy". He did a respectable job for the first time out- vid's to follow.
Unfortunately Kristin ruptured her ear drum but was a trooper and pulled be on the run below before heading in and to Doc in a Box. Jump to the 3 minute mark and again at the 6 minute mark for the starts. Going out in the am shooting for some long line action in the morning along with the barefeet on the 5'line.
|

Yes, the skiing and driving is very much in sync. Take the shoes off and tighten the inside cable. You are making it look too easy now...

One thing to work on...cocking the toes towards shins...youre putting feet in perpendicular to water surface and that will screw you up. Dont fully leverage until you are moving a bit faster

Well lets just say things behind the boat are a bit different. Was glad to have the neck brace on for this one.
Andy, you are very correct in your comment about the feet. In this video you can see the difference. I picked up on this while out this morning behind the boat as well.

After a morning of spills and failed attempts did not try without shoes- next weekend. |

Kristin's friend boy on the boom. Boom could have been abit higher but you only get what you get the first time out.

Greg: I took a look at your boom/bacerds videos. I agree with Hollywood, time to lose the shoes! You looked really good. Very minor point, but will serve you well in the future: your head looks like it it is looking down still, even though I know you are not. If you put a little curl (arch) into your lower back and pull your should blades a bit together, your head will come up a bit and your posture will be a bit brighter and more athletic. You look like you are in the barefoot equivalent of a slouch. Sometimes the pull of the boat and the ride forms postures we default to. I know because I have been correcting some of my own. If you do continue to ride the shoes, get busy out there. You can shift weight from foot to foot. You can start picking up a foot too. Enjoy the ride. BTW: my other default is to run any boyfriend of my daughter's into another boat, off the dam, or accidentally back-up over them! LOL.

ATTENTION:
Winter Barefooters and/or owners of Barefoot International Drysuits. I was on the phone the other day with Bob from Ocean Tec, makers of BI Drysuits. He told me since they no longer make those suits, soon they will no longer repair them. Meaning replace seals, zippers, etc. He said "this may be the last year we repair them." If your suit needs seals replaced or repair, NOW is the time to do it. I am sure there are other places to get this done, but not by the original maker. Any repair will take 4-6 weeks, and winter is a'comin. Their website is www.oceantec-usa.com. |

Hi guys,
Please don't comment on my "tumble turn" start, had to do something with a standard wetsuit and vest, But I was wondering how my stance looks in this video, I never had any training just trying on my own. Been wandering around on this site for some time now and it just rocks!!!! Thanks in advance Frank http://youtu.be/VBLoDBLUgeA |

Your stance is reasonably good. The tumble up was on the wrong hip.

I know you said not to comment on the tumble, but andy's right (he always is)
3 things- -buy a barefoot suit...well worth the investment -move to the 5 foot line...you're ready -your english in that video was terrible...enunciate good luck, welcome to the barefoot club. keep posting videos, its winter here, we love to watch |

Thanks for the advice, so I have to tumble on my left hip?
The suit has been bought, be it a tad to small but hey no pain no gain. Had a back injury in car crash last year and I'm still recovering, but I want to pick up the footing next season... About the bad English.... It's not, it's Dutch 😉 Translated: pay close attention, if it works... Halfway the movie: aaaaargh... |

Form looks pretty good, speed looks pretty hot. Back it down 5mph next time... You should be able to foot very slow on the boom. Keep thinking cheat out/shoulders back and hips up. I wouldn't worry about perfecting the boom tumble up, it's no a stepping stone to any other barefooting skills that I can think of- it's just a means to get on you feet.

Ever hear of a "tumbleturn" ?....there are 4 different tumbleturns. There is the longline tumbleup start....so thats 5 tricks that a correctly done tumble up on the boom teaches.

The leading hip is lifted...the trailing hip is where your weight is. Getting it lifted requires you to get twisted. Once done correctly the ease becomes very clear...its just way easier almost effortless.

Another way to think of it is keep knees together and as you spin to the front your knees should point back...not forward.

I wouldnt move to 5ft line until proficient at both one foots and the hop and stand up sit downs all without catching....then use a wrapped handle about a foot off boom and run through all tricks without catching with smooth plants...and then go to the 5ft and repeat all tricks...then come back here to this epic thread and post the videos and well give you a new list to conquer.

I do not consider skiing directly on the boom a good way to teach tumble turns, no. Talk about putting the cart before the horse.

You may want to also talk to your driver about those sweeping turns after you let go, ideally have them hold their line and just slow down quickly to idle, then slowly turn and idle back to your skier. This will keep from sending rollers all over that awesome glass you had.
