Went out this morning with my buddy Carl - nothing but crashes for me - sorry guys no posts at this time. Trust me it was the same thing over and over - slow down and do not rush - do not gas pedal.
In any event here is one of Carl's short line runs behind the boat - he called the speed - 44. |

Spring is here finally!
so to celebrate I ripped a few sets! 4 month almost without hitting the waters. Took a winter break to allow my waist to heal a bit. Its good to be back in the water...no pain the day after is also good... |

Wanted to quickly share this (poor quality) video from Saturday, shortly before the boat came out of the water for a bath and winterization. Thank goodness for still fall days. The only folks on the water were fishermen who mostly stayed out of the way as we took turns getting our last runs in.
Maybe it is finally time to invest in some barefoot gear. I made huge strides this year after a few pointers last summer from Tim and the one thing that cannot be replaced; time behind the boat. I think I am finally at the point where I should definitely invest in some barefoot gear (suit, rope, handle). If ya'll have any recommendations send 'em my way. Otherwise just enjoy the beautiful fall colors and some out of focus video by my brother's girlfriend (she didn't know how to work my camera). J |

If you want to do more than that then yea, a suit for deep waters is necessary.

Barefoot suit and some neoprene shorts and a non stretch line dyneema or spectra...opens the door to so much more.

That is quite the spot there. How the hell can you get your foot up in that toe hold?? I guess I need to start yoga. I barely get there when the boom is at my belly button.

Kevin, everytime I drive down to Powers Lake I have to drive over the Fox River, if we could figure out access we could (I guess I have to start changing this to something like "I could pull you and we could") have some GREAT water ALL the time. It appears to be about the same (bank to bank) width as was Seb is skiing on, only the water is a tad bid cleaner - HA!

Just thought I'd pass this along here...There is a movie called Bang Bang that includes some barefoot scenes of Keith St Onge as a stunt double filmed in Clear Lake CA that used Roy Lakeboy's Sanger as a towboat and to chase the plane with videocameras. Its a Bollywood movie that I was kinda sceptical about ... but Iwent and saw it and I really can't recommend it enough. I loved it. I give it 4 out of 4 possible barefeet! It is action packed and just spectacular. You do have to read subtitles but you can really tell what's going on anyway. Its a great story with a twist. Its interesting to see all the locations they shot in. There are a few song and dance sequences that are not subtitled but still enjoyable. I highly recommend this movie and thought it better than most of what Hollywood puts out. Go see Bang Bang!

nothing too spectacular here, but it was my first double run so I'm pretty proud of it. Me on the left, Jon on the right.
and this is why everyone should come skiing with me, every time I grab a rope its an adventure, haha. Notice the perfect form on my back, legs straight up, splayed out, rope all the way over my head, textbook. |

Been thinking this trick for some time.
I think I've never seen it done before. Its a side slide but the show foot goes way forward, thus making it seem I slide parallel to the boat. As i run the boom on the port side, I give the back to the boat hidding away most of the leg position. I might need to catch the action from a gopro mounted on the boom or me holdind it from a stick..or mount the boom on the drivers side.... anyway I called it the Front Slide or KFS (kapla front slide) here it goes: |

Take a crappy slalom ski and remove the toe piece of the front boot. Once the boat is up to speed, place your rear foot in the water. Get enough pressure on the foot in the water to ease up on the foot that is still tucked into the boot heel, your foot will slide right off the front of the ski. Once your second foot hits the water, you'll have to adjust for spray and distance between feet. That's how we learned it in the late 70's before suits, wake boards and booms were popular. Best of luck and have fun! P.S. - when going down, TUCK & ROLL!

Newbie, so probably read the first couple of posts, which if I remember correctly were asking about how to barefoot and didn't realize that this thread is some 300 pages long and then put down the method above. I remember catching myself doing something similar when I first started. We all forget it takes a little while to figure out the lay of the land on this site... |

Greg, After looking at the video of carl, its like he's barefooting in the furrow of a plowed field. He's way to close and directly in the prop wash. I.am 58 and I pulled some serious long line footer's in my day. I don't see this as fun for carl or you. Here is how I see it. If you barefoot long line use the lift ring at the back of the boat. Your pull is at shoulder height. Carl is way to close to the boat. We always used 100' for long line barefooting. Next after your up, get out of the turbulent wake and move to the curl, left or right. The tower and ski pole serve know purpose in long line footing in my opinion. I hope this will be helpful to you, I also would recommend you step off a ski in the curl as a first, before deep water or tumble turns behind the boat. Good luck in the spring, and let us know how you do. |

It seemed pretty obvious to me that Carl is goofing off in that video, especially the part where he reaches up and holds on to the handle rope section where both sides meet.
You are dating yourself on the 100' off the lifting ring advice. Current practice is 70' from a very high center pylon. |
