Pontoon boats with tubes are the new jetskis on my lake they see me coming with a boarder in tow and come buzzing over like flies to throw thier kids at my wake. If my boarder happens to fall they will of course run them over, but that doesnt seem to concern them. We really dont have as many jetskis out there as we used to I think requiring them to get a license really has had an effect.
But screw all you guys-- I am buying another jetski on the way home from work tonight.. then we are launching the bayliner with the force outboard and breaking out the tubes! -- alright it is really a glastron with a force outboard.. but it sure looks like a bayliner. |

I agree with you...most are complete a-holes. However, I am staring to lose faith in our inboard family. Seems every time I am out on the water I see another ski/wake boat show total disregard for anyone else on the water. Granted, these are more often than not a newer $50k+ boat that mommy and daddy bought for Jr. to tear up, but the point still stands. Seems it is no longer just your low dollar "bayliners" causing all the trouble. I know 99% of the people on this site know, and follow, the "rules of the road", but unfortunatly, we are only a very small percentage of the inboard family. I just think with (and it kills me to say this word) regulations, we could all enjoy the water together. I have no problem with responsible tubers and do not think it any more dangerous, or harmful to the shoreline, than wakeboarding or any other reasonable water sport. As far as the jet skis, or anything else for that matter, chasing any boat to use its wake...I think a decent paintball gun should pretty much take care of that. Not deadly, but still hurts like hell! |

Have to agree with Eric on this one, if my kids want to tube and that gets them wanting to get out of the house to spend time on the lake, I will pull them all day. My kids like to tube and wakeboard, for some reason can't get them skiing yet. Tubes aren't a problem but good luck changing the attitudes of some people out there.
I also love reading posts about others customizing THEIR boats, if I wanted to change the colour of my boat and ad wild graphics, why would that offend other CC owners? |

There are some stupid inboard guys that dont know the family tradition of them. As you stated, most of them are the 50ks, (most of them are master crafts in my lake) and they are in there 20's bumping that darn jigga booo music throwing a massive wake, and it is one after the other. And it seems these a holes are realy not looking for good water, crap they are tearing up the good water. Different class of peps. Glad to be a part of a special inboard family, cause it makes it nice when the older inboards coming rolling by or it is you and we wave at one another. |

My thought is, If you have bought a tournament style inboard for weekend use on public waterways.
Either get used to it or re-evaluate. |

We are on Lake Lanier one of the busiest lakes in GA. We have 50' 4 toners house boats and every thing else. I have found that if you want good water on weekends you better be out there by 7am. The lake is mine until around 930am. By then we are pretty much done and ready for a snack and a soak in the water.

Peter, enough to pop a tube with a stick near shore, I told this once before that one of my friends was talking out of school (the wifes were around) winged his ass off at a 20 by 20 island and left him there for a few hours. we always used the tube to punish or hurt someone, "you dont get back on the boat until you are hurt"
much wiser and safer nowadays. I will admit that I was one of those a-holes that owned a boat. and I seen the light, anymore if i even see a skier down and they dont have their flag up we head right over to the boat and make sure they have their flag up. went from one extreme to another. with a boat the odds are very high that someone could easily get hurt or killed, I probably dont have enough fingers to count on to the close calls i personally have had on a boat. I always urge people to take a boaters safety course, not just for their safety but for others safety out there |

Pretty much what it comes down to. With that said though last time were out I was dropping in at 6:45am and what drives by but a big honkin I/O pulling two tubes. I couldn't freaking believe it. This dip*************** actually pulled all the way to the docks which is at least 100' INSIDE the no wake bouys with people on both tubes still doing about 20mph. He picked up some more people and powered right out while my boat was getting slammed all over the trailer, classic *************** |

I think Adam said it best with the above statement. I think EVERYONE should take a boaters safety course and the DNR or game warden or who ever you register the boat with must have the course completion on file in order to renew your registration. First time boat owners must take the class within 60 days after purchasing a new boat and as far as the Jet skiers go..... Anyone riding on one had better have taken the class or both the owner and rider get fined. you don't drive a vehicle without a license...a powered watercraft shouldn't be any different. |

Down here in tx we have lots of problems with young teenagers riding them jet skiies and not knowing how bouys are marked. As Alan stated, a whole ramp area will be marked off "No Wake Zone" and the kids thinnk it is smooth water, lets fk it up while you are loading or unloading your boat.

Not a bad idea, but some states aren't interested. It gets killed in Maine everytime and never gets out of committee. Here you have to be 16 and have boater safety to drive a jet ski, but as long as you are 12 you are legal to drive a 3,000 hp Cigarette boat or a Correct Craft with no boater safety. Under 10 hp, no limts what so ever.
Peter, I believe NH is mandatory for everyone. |

Bruce, yes it a darn shame that many states aren't interested. Even if they are I'm bet my bottom dollar than the lobbiest's are there to plead their case on how such laws would hurt their respected industry as people wouldn't buy a boat or jet ski because DON'T want to be burdened with having to take a class or the jet ski owners being sure that their riders are qualified.
Heaven forbid for anyone to own up to being responsible and to quit blaming someone else for an idiotic decision on their part. It didn't take long for the "flying" tubes to be pulled off the market so maybe that will happen with tubes one day....Yeah right! Unfortunately it will probably take many more deaths and accidents before the lawmakers do something and pass such a law. |

That's dirty pool Al...especially for dumb people like me who are gullible (or bored) enough to look through the reference section to find it. And yes, I did that.
