Nice Job Steve. Looking real solid on your feet. I cringe every time you fall and hang on to the rope. Nothing is gained by doing that.. Seriously, as soon as you feel you are going down, let go.
Nice long line attempts. Maybe edge outside the wake at 25-30 MPH, then have the drive speed up. 40 MPH in the churn is no fun. Well done! |

So you must know someone who lives there to get your Sport on the water? There wasn't any traffic last night for our ski show either, we were finally able to put a barefoot pyramid in.
That butt glide whip was awesome, the crash across the wake was inevitable. |

Seb; Yes, I laughed too on the "jump the wake" and yes it is a "fish-eye" lens - not a straight line anywhere in those shots. The last crash - didn't appear to be rollers, guess my right foot thought differently...
Roy; I know, I know like I said, I try to let go ASAP, not sure why the reaction is so slow. And on the first one, my leg shot up and I just kind of rolled onto my back, so figured I'd try to tumble back around. One of these time's I am actually going to try a tumble turn on purpose! On the long line, so I am getting more comfortable in the butt glide and three point but on the long line, it’s really difficult to get stable. I think next time, I'll try the "cheeking out" thing. I also have to remember Ryan’s tip to keep my elbow’s in. HW; Yeah, my neighbor's mom lives across the street so we park the trailer their. Great footin lake during the week. Where does your ski team practice/perform - I'd like to see a barefoot pyramid! Maybe down at Clinton. |

1. Move the boom forward and, adjust they cables again. This will keep alot of the chine spray off of you.
2. Take those trick skis and ride them. The trick ski position is almost the exact position you should be in while footing and will help you develope muscle memory. 3. Have driver spread his legs just wider than his shoulders and kick him with a prejudice square in the nuts! Tell him straight pull only, and to stay out of the throttle till you're in your three point. 4. Drop to your three point(Again, driver out of the throttle), feet off the water and in front of you or back on the rope. Then bring them back underneth you and stand. Over, and over, and over again. |

A straight line pull is going to result in a very short run on that lake. As SN206 is pointing out, you definitely have enough speed!
There is no public access on this lake correct? 2 girls came and tried out last week from that lake, I hope they join the team. We are on Lake Mary (Marie), which is due west in Twin Lakes. Tonight will be the last chance to see us doing any bfps, very rarely do we get calm enough water. |

What is your driver is a girl like my wife....LOL. Headed out to Sheridan for 4 days of camping and footing. I ripped a set with Willie Farrell this morning in the Sacramento Deep Water Channel. 20 miles of straight freaking glass. It is 100 degrees today and no wind. Unreal. Willie had a professional photographer out there shooting stills. Hopefully a few good ones came out of it. This one is from earlier in the week: |

Kapla...from back on the previous page, yes I forgot how to do the link, so Thanks for posting it that way, the suit you are commenting on must be Willie's "Rubics Cube" Eagle suit. I was in my old Eagle and pulled off the second flyer ar 1:44 off the roof, nice pull Roy, I could even handle more throttle on it, just nail it dude! It was a good solid pull anyway as it pulled me off the roof very nicely.
Skutch- nice vid, yes I laughed too at the superlongline butt glide wake pop, My advice would be to go and do more directly on the boom alternating your one foots there til you can pick em up and set em down at will...that will make your handle starts and longline plants get better quicker, pull the handle to your hip on the tumbles and lift the leading hip(point knees back) it will be super easy then |

This is a good drill....I would add that you need to pull the handle tight to your waist as you sit. Its good practice for the starts to hold this butt slide position for a short time before standing again. |

Andy, Mark and Roy: thanks for the additional tips. I really do appreciate all the critiques.
All you guys keep drilling things into me and when things are going crazy, overwhelming on the water all of the stuff from this thread helps to keep it together. Mark - where is LaurelLake? |

Well I was going to suggest we get together sometime to ski, but that would have to wait until next year at this point. Won't be able to get that far north til the snowflies (with the sleds). Do you snowmobile? Sorry for the threadjack, however have you seen the Blue Moo Crew footin behind the sleds in dry suits in the middle of winter? Have to try and find that clip... |

Glad I'm not the only one! My fiance freaked out last night when she saw my entire butt was black and blue. I don't bruise easily and NEVER bruised as bad as I am now. It looks like I've been caned. I had a regular wetsuit on, so my next purchase is a barefoot suit. I can't wait to get back out and foot again! |

I'd suggest adding a pair of padded shorts to the barefoot suit order. Wearing the shorts under the suit will make your 'footing experience a lot more enjoyable. |

I agree on the padded shorts.
For the life of me I still can't figure out what you guys are doing (or not doing) to get so banged up. Either you are on really rough water, which is not ideal to learn to foot, or you are hanging out in the wake and churn on your butt, which isn't the best either. One idea might be to use a hydroslide or a kneeboard to get up behind the boat until you are comfortable with planting and skiing it away. Mastering those skills may reduce a few variables when doing a deep water start and enable you to get on your feet faster without dragging so long and getting banged up. Just a thought... |

Hydroslide is a MFG name, what is it you guys are referring to? The only time I got a bruise barefooting was when I hit a fish. My ten year old suit was made with 10mm padding, if I'm doing a lot of deepwater starts and tumbles I'll wear a regular old pair of 2mm neoprene shorts under it. With real padded shorts and a new(er) suit you can butt glide forever!
I also notice that A LOT barefooters wear suits that are too big for them. I wore 2 suits at once once and couldn't even feel the water. |

Roy, I agree with you - I don't understand how they are getting bruised either. I spend a lot of time dragging in the water, bouncing around on top of the water (more time in those positions then on my feet - HA) see the videos I have posted. The only time I have ever had any bruising is when I tried footin with just a "regular" wetsuit. With the suits and shorts I have never had any issues (other then all the water ingested up the nose...)
HW, your on to something with fit. I have seen guys get bruised by the actual barefoot suit because it was too big, and all that extra material starts flappin and bangin on your body - result is Big Ol bruise! |

yup. agree with all that. i learned to LL on the hydro, but did 3-4 starts with it and moved on. I don't think I have ever been bruised, really. I buddy of mine complains about chippy water jacking his flab above his shorts line when tumbling. I told him to lay off the donuts and get the flab off the water...LOL.

Awesome Mike, will take you up on that (I unfortunately don't live there anymore, actually in Racine, WI, but the folks are still there). No plans to be back to Dubuque though probably until Oct. I am always up for skiing with folks who have this footin thing mastered! Are you going to the mini reunion down in Lake Clinton, IL?

Well I'm sure the folks would love to see the grand kids!!! :) haha I was going to the reunion, until I was informed that it's not in Clinton, IOWA!!!!!!!!!! That was my bad... haha so no, I'm not attending unfortunately.
EDIT: I had no idea how far away Racine is from here. That stinks...CCFAN members live too far away from each other :( |

went today in the morning..wow nice day spring is here..sunny Tº around 70º no wind and nobody around so water was nice and calm..
I had nice sets..clean starts..and I got to do both sides one footers...I´m better on the left foot than riding the right one...and also tumble turns in both directions....yeah baby... I noticed I need to do something with the spray..i´m fighting against is sometimes in the start and also after doind the tumble turn..I get washed away.. No head packers this time... I tried pushing the boom forward a tad but still i get some... Maybe the BI extension is the hot ticket... |

Seb; Why not order a boom extension and Height adjuster and have it delivered to Roy or whoever your visiting in NY and then smuggle it back in your suit case. Won't have any problems getting those through security in checked bags in the US. Your only issue might be customs in Argentina, you would have to make the call on that end!

positive I will get the extension, of the 2 i guess is the more important..the height adjuster I know its handy but i can spare from it..carrying both (around 15-20lb) will limit weight of the luggage I can carry to buenos aires...and I expect to do some shopping ..

Big time fun tonight at Lake Shangri-La. The guys in the neighborhood and I went out after a week and a half hiatus. It was a big night for me as I hit my goal for the year. I successfully hit a deep long line start and then a couple wake crosses. I still am pretty darn pumped. Check out the short clip (sorry for the poor quality)
Just after this Quinner and Hollywood joined us. Will post the video of their tandem run as well as "Rude Dog" and "Uncle's" (my neighbor and his Uncle) tandem run. Anyway, always appreciate any feedback. I know this wasn't the best form but I sure was happy to make it happen! Great Night!!! |
