Getting out is an art in my family. With 4 kids in school, soccer, church, etc., it is NO small task. Being a member at a ski club helps. Often we will camp out for a couple days and rip it big. Over Labor day I got in 11 sets of 6-8 runs. That's getting some water under your feet. My business has been real slow, so I can sneak out for a 2-3 hour get out here and there. Mostly, I resist as much as possible over planning the calender so I don't get over commited.
Low key foot summer for the kids. My oldest 14 was bitten by the wakeboard bug. John, 8 made some nice strides on the boom, and attempting to tumble up on the handle. Juilanne 6, and Luke 4 skied quited a bit, not much on the footing. I think John will have a break out year in 2011. Back is fine. bit stiff. feeling all 48 of my years right now. |

Skutsch, HW, Joe, and anyone else. Anytime. Just let us know. Will say it's been raining this week. Perhaps an early/long winter for use here. We shall see. Of course, a long winter means it will rain. Not like the water will be frozen over or anything. Come on out. If you don't make it out before year end, perhaps March or early April as a kickoff before your own seasons begin. BKH |

Seb, Holy Cow! Guess good steering control is mandatory on that river, that one log looked REALLY close! Otherwise, you look really strong out there. Nice Job!

Nice Tumbles. Looks great! That is some very muddy water, is that typical spring river water, or does it always carry that much silt?

Seb, have driver keep the speed down @ 25 while you deep start or tumble start until you have a clean butt slide and start your three point.

Seb: Great video and good footing. Couple comments for what it is worth:
- On your start, you are leaving your feet on the rope too long, then suddenly slamming them on the water. Get your feet off the rope a bit sooner, establish a smooth controlled butt glide, THEN plant your feet, slowly and evenly. That will help your start. -On your one foots: First, you are heel heavy and plowing hard going into the one foot. Your shoulders and upper body go so far back, when you lift the foot, your drive the foot in the water forward, not down. Bottom line is you fight the pull of the boat, and plow the foot on the water. Second, to compensate for the plow, you are pulling the handle in with your arms. Try thinking about the one-foot like this. Get your shoulders and your body OVER your knees; get your knees over your feet. That will put all the weight over your feet. Keep your arms long and relaxed. DO NOT PULL ON THE HANDLE! Lean onto the foot you want to ride on. Lean further. Lean FURTHER, so all (or most of the weight) is transfered onto the foot. Check to make sure your shoulders are still forward, weight pushing DOWN on the foot on the water. Lift the foot up. Do not bend the knee. Ride it! Smile! Now set the foot down, while still leaning, and the foot touches the water, transfer the weight down onto the foot. The biggest challenge for you will be NOT leaning back, and not pulling. You need to correct this or you will really struggle with the toe-hold. Watch the one foots in the beginning of this video. See how my shoulders do not go back when I pick up the foot: Watch these one-foots |

As long as everyone seems to be in the mood for giving suggestions, I've got a couple for your tumble turns. Start the turn by sitting down on the water and pulling the handle in to the bottom of your wetsuit zipper. Once you are in a good glide position with the handle at your hips and feet out in front of you, go ahead and do the turn. After the turn is completed, be sure to come back to the forward position with the handle again at the zipper before you set your feet back on the water. Your turns will take a little longer at first but you'll take less hard falls and avoid the risk of injury if you start and end the turn with a good slide on your butt. You should be able to see what I'm talking about here in My First Short Video.

nice job, seb. good to see things have warmed up there in BA, enough to get out of the dry suit. We are at the tipping point in California, where winter rules are in effect soon. The nights have turned cold, and we are losing (lost) our warm days. I went out last week when it was still warm. Took 3 hard falls. Out of synch that day. Will likely go out friday. I will let you know if we are in drysuits.
FYI: on the one foot, still looks like you are pulling in with the arms. You are doing that to compensate for your shoulders dropping back. I know, because I used to do it too. Until you can glide on the one foot, that toe-hold you want so bad will be far off. Something to think about.... |

Took some runs on the 5' rope last weekend, low 40's water temp, mid 40's air. Forgot how fun and automatic footing on the short rope is. Tumbled up a few times and kicked glass. I guess I'm back on the wagon, at least for the short rope.

Well, I thought my skiing was done for the year. Earlier this week Hollywood got a hold of me, and said the 88 is still in the water, you gotta come try out a dry suit. So thanks a ton Hollywood for my first introduction to footin dry... Here is the video, Also some great runs by PLBC and Hollywood:
Hollywood has some great tricks for keeping warm - my favorite is keeping a cooler in the back filled with hot water to stand in after getting out of the lake. Guys next time, I'll be more helpful, all this new stuff can still be overwhelming, but MAN ITS FUN!!! |

A great late season bonus is having the lake all to yourselves. Looks like a good time (except the out the back that made MY neck start to hurt!)
