great video!!I always like kevins suit colour selection!!!
on a side note I summerized today my drysuit... I was out today..doing long line runs...I have my inner legs at the knee with bruises made by the handle on the starts...but it was a nice day..water was fine...I tried a long line tumble but seems to be more difficult then in the boom..line is so much flatter so turning around its hard... |

you can get away with alot on the boom. Longline makes you do it correctly or you won't make it. You have to keep the leading hip up. (and as LLS said above keep the handle from going up over your head.) To keep the leading hip up you can think of it a couple of ways. Keep your knees pointed AWAY from the direction you are being pulled behind the boat...to do this you have to turn your hips as you get half way around (that's when you move the handle from one side to the other)
Or just think about twisting your body so that the leading hip is up...otherwise it catches and stops your turn(do not try to reach your feet out/around to make it---you can blow a knee like that) be sure you are square to the front before planting feet again. If you get stuck just let go. I have been hounding Lakeboy to perfect his tumbles because he does not lift that leading hip enough...he makes them and he has done it longline but it is SO MUCH EASIER if you keep the leading hip raised a little bit by twisting slightly/or more than slightly til you get it down correctly. |

Seb, HA - that was actually Quinner's dry suit that Hollywood found in Quinners garage or basement. Definitely vintage, and amazingly the seals didn't rip, although it wasn't as dry as it could have been. Hollywoods main suit is under repair (new seals) and he graciously gave me his backup suit, making the sacrifice to wear Quinners.
Andy, I am so glad you posted the tips above. I have been working up the courage to try a long line tumble. When I sat down on the video above, I was shocked at how much slack I got in the rope and immediately abandoned any thought of a tumble turn. I think I have to work on a better transition back to the 3 point, then move into the tumble. I was pretty tired by that time anyway. Amazing how sore you get after a month off. But lifting that leading hip, would be huge. Mark, did you get any of those deep snows yesterday??? |

Seeing that really depresses me that I won't be back out for another 6 months. What they call ten bad mistakes, I call another day out on the water. Good times!!

Not that you can't see this in a million other places, but when I read this, I thought of this picture, which I think pretty well illustrates what Andy is getting at. Admittedly, it is short line and a bunch easier. I learned my tumbles long line, because I didnt own a boom in 1985, and hit them without any problem. I have to confess that now that I spend more time than I should short line, I am spoiled and fail at my long line tumbles way more often than I should. I gotta spend more time long line to keep up my skills. |

Kapla if you had the boom positioned at the back like that on a SN2001 you would be hit dead center by a wall of water.
Had my boom on a friends ski boat a couple of weeks back the side spray was almost non existent on his hull. Andy awesome video. Will try and get some video up shortly making a camera mount to facilitate. Goal is to be deep water start longline by the end of the season. That is if it ever stops raining |

No.....sounds like most of that was in the western part of the state. Nothing but rain here. I talked to friends up at the lake and they only got a couple of inches of snow there. |

OK, I have been holding out a bit on you guys. The fall weather has been spectacular at times in November, and have bee lucky enough to go out. My barefooting has left something to be desired, however. At first I thought it was lack of focus, age maybe (??!), of lack of conditioning. I have been in a general, fatigued state, sleeping poorly and wiped out at the end of the day. So much so, it might be time to a strip to the doc. Afterall, I ripped 11 sets in 2 1/2 days over Labor Day, so it cannot be conditioning.
Anyway, the last few go-outs, I can barely run a full set without feeling drained, and my legs quaking. I have taken way more headers than usual. Hopefully I will know more soon. In the meantime, here are a couple of footsets: Diablo Shores 11-2-10 Port of Sacramento 11-12-10 Ripped one last week, but have not ran the video yet. |

Roy - that water at Diablo Shores is just plain freaky. Do they die it (weed control) to get that color? I didn't see any falls...
Andy - its always awesome to watch you ski. Love the long line work, especially the one foot wake crosses - oh yeah, both front and back. Too Cool! Keep them coming, its a long winter here in WI... |

Nice long line tumble up Andy. That start kicks my butt 75% of the time on the 75' line.

Thanks guys.
yes there is dye in the water to keep weeds from growing.(it's harmless) I can give tips on the tumble up since lots of people have trouble with it. ...use your forearms...pull the handle in to your chest with hands even with your face...drive one forearm into the water as soon as you plane out...push down with your knees a little bit as you are planing out(keeps your body off the water) you can steer left by driving your right forearm hard into the water...let off as you cross the wake...then get set in the curl... flip over and pull hard to the hip (never let your arms out long) |

You are unrecognizable without the goggles.
11/10 - Northern Illinois. Headed to the docks. skutsch's first drysuit experience. Warming up the feet. Not the ideal style suit for barefoot but he did a couple deepwaters anyway! I put the Skylon on to at least minimize some drag but he didn't complain one bit. Solid. |

Not really sure when I'll get in yet. I'm going to be making my way up to Crandon WI (9hrs from DM) on sunday and dropping off our Chris Craft Monday morning. I'll spend some time up there Monday morning and then make the 6 hr drive down.
Gotta check where I'm staying once I get into town. I'll be there till thursday night tho. |

The 88's trailer was picked up from its summer storage "aka my yard" so I believe the boat is out.

Nice footing Steve, Hollywood and others. Good to see time was well spent over the Holiday. Willie, Andy and I went out and ripped a set to cool, but classic conditions. No video, sorry. Busted out the drysuit for the first time. I was reminded how much that neck seal chokes me out!
Good footing, too, Sebastian. I am still gonna bust you for pulling in your arms on the one foot!!! The pull of the arms is compensating for bad glide. If you did not pull in on your arms, your shoulders would go back and you would be plowing more than you are now. Gotta fix that. It will haunt you when you start toe holds. See how much spray is blasting forward and around you? Plow city! |

I know, I know. Been there, done that. The position you are in is "defensive". A few face plants will get make you be defensive. As long as you know you need work on it, you will get there. Nice work!
