If the vent faced forward wouldn't it be putting air into the tank and not venting it?

Maybe perfect, may draw fuel out of the tank.

Maybe mount the vent out of the air-stream???

I could be totally incorrect on this, but I think the drag of the ID of the piping wouldn't allow for anything to really happen.
I just don't think and type of vaccuum can be created.

This is once again being over thought.

Talk about overthiking it, does anyone know how an air speed indicatio works?

Could you coil the vent tubing to form a "P" trap so NO gas makes it out and on to that FANTASTIC FINNISH.

OK while were in thinking mode, the old gas tank was grounded by the copper fuel line. I am going back with 3/8 rubber hose so how do I ground the tank for safety? There are no tabs on the new tank to connect a ground wire to. I was thinking of putting a hose clamp around the fill neck and securing a ground wire to it then to the block. This would be for grounding the tank not the fuel sending unit. Sound acceptable?

Larry posting this photo made me go back and look at it again. I have another B&W photo that shows it facing rear and down on the original brochure boat so that is how I'll install it. No idea why it is forward on mine but it made no sense at all. There was evidence that the aft end of the side planks on my boat had been refastened so maybe it just got put back on wrong at that time.

Downward and to aft makes the most sense in terms of function to me.

I'm with Joe on this one. Down and aft.

Alan, if you get it wrong it's only like a 4 year repair to get rid of the holes.

Or you create a great spot for a ccfan sticker . Maybe this year they could be made in gold leaf in the hurricanes honor.

This thread was four pages back. Have you gone into per-reunion stealth mode?

I wish Dave, spring is finally here and we're actually pretty busy at work. That's why I hustle so much during the winter because I run out of time real fast.

But for an update, I do have the wiring complete and everything actually works! The motor turns over and should fire right up. I just dropped the trailer off this morning for sandblast and powdercoat, we're also adding a swing tongue to it so the rig will fit in the garage. So once I get that back I'll get the boat on it and it will see daylight for the first time in a few years, then off it goes for a custom cover.

With a little luck I will be picking up the interior tonight so next step is getting the linoleum down on the floor and start wrapping this thing up.

Ps. the gas vent got installed down and rearward.

Not much work done in the last month but enough for a few photos.

Cutwater is installed

Wiring, gauges and dash installed

linoleum floor installed and the rest of the ceiling planks in place

Exhaust trim rings on

And my favorite bling shot

The colors could not have worked out any better, the yellow, green, mahogany and chrome are stunning.

I am still waiting for the interior to be completed, maybe Friday. Also a Long shot but I may get the trailer back this week too. Lot's left to do and the clock is ticking.

Is the thought of putting it back on the trailer a little nauseating/scary? Little more skin in the game now than when it came off the trailer!

I never enjoy doing that Joel, I do have a chain fall in the garage now so that should help.

Thanks Jim, It's not perfect by a long shot but I've given it all I've got , time to get it in the water and use it.

Beautiful boat. And beautifully different than all the rest.   A wood boat magazine ought to find out about your restoration.

Let me know if you need a hand, or somebody to throw themselves under the boat to save it. Worthy sacrifice
