Is that engine an early Interceptor? If it is, it would be a great parts engine for someone wanting to build a 427 Interceptor. It's got the timing cover with no water circulating pump.
Interceptor appears to have used the same long blocks as Chris Craft for their 427's.. I can find no Ford info with the same specs, ie 8.9:1 compression ratio, 300 hp @4000 rpm. Were the marine 427s special orders from Ford? |

The typical 300hp marine engine pack you reference did come directly from Ford in that low perf longblock configuration to the respective marinization companies, such as Chris, Interceptor, and Crusader, as a special marine unit. That package has/had the same cam and heads as a 352 and 390. Only the short block is of any significant value as a performance part. Interceptor and Holman Moody (of course) did offer much higher performance versions of the engine in at least 330hp and 400hp versions that I know of. In an auto, the engine was never offered at anything less than 390hp, and more commonly 410-4V and 425-8V applications. I'm wanting the one I've got to be no more than maybe a 375hp/4800rpm version in hopes that it might last a while/forever. But 375 should make a Barracuda scoot right along. |

I look forward to seeing you blaze that trail. I'm thinking 352 cu in/250 hp stickers on a 427/300 would put it at the top of the stock class. |

Overpriced, especially since it would take a lot of time to wet sand out those flames and reupholster the interior. |

Roger, One of the boats I looked at this past weekend for the "Best Original" award was a Arenacraft. I talked with the owner for quite sometime before deciding it was far from original. (the big items were a repower with a 327 Gray and the non original upholstery) Anyway, Arena used LH engines! Note the port side helm and if you look real close, it's got a LH prop. Converting the rotation would be a big project with finding parts! |

Thank's Pete for pointing that out, marine Y blocks and AMC are very thin on the ground in Europe, would be a shame to part this one out. Bruce that's a good idea if it goes to parts it could still work out. |

The guy has a $1200 offer to high for me.But would be a player on windshield if its parted out.The way the interior cap meets the floor means removing top half for stringers and floor which is totally glassed together,a very big job.Pete my boat has RH motor but still left prop after v drive ;o)

I like that the guy appears to make a sincere effort to describe the problem and damage, so often they will say "one head cracked, easy $400 fix" or something like that. Having said that, not sure that detonation was caused by just some old fuel.
Question - what was the HP rating of the 1994 351? Is this a case where, if you were fixing it, you'd upgrade heads and gain HP since you are doing the work anyway? |

Yeah on that boat almost the opposite is the case.. as stated it was a pro boss with approx 285 hp.. came with the respectable gt40 heads if he has not purchased direct replacements (or gt40p's) the boat will likely end up with closer to the stock 240 levels. GT40 heads are not easy to find except new and not cheap.. GT40p would be a suitable alternative and more readily found.. stock 351w heads are what most would buy for a boat they were selling..
