Isn't that always the case? It's a good boat, now solid as heck. Run it. You'll never see the lil stuff when your holdin' on to the handle anyways. Looks good.

Ryan,
That looks really great. Added this thread to my favorites. Good pics and info for my planned resto in the future... |

The raised area in the bow is for ballast and the ventilation, cables, wires run through passages on the sides into the floor. If you notice the holes drilled in the stringer to keep the venting out of the center of the hull.Just trying to get as much room as possible out of a small boat.
The second step is to make the floor wider so my right foot is not crammed against the side of the hull(one of my many 2001 complaints). |

well F and F, you have inspired me, i recenty aquired a 20ft Wellcraft center counsel, it was an outboard boat and a perfect project for me to drop a v-drive in it, I know its not a CC, but im more of a deep vee guy and spend my time on Lake Erie and its a prefered style because of the close waves...I'll start tearing into it this weekend. I have one of 2 options, a BBC or a 302 roller that i may stroke or build a Clevor. its just to nice of a hull to take down to the landfill. i have a hsw630 1.5 for the project which should be fine but prefer the 1.26 ratio. i am leaning into leaving the center counsel and will build a tower for the boat, its more of a project of curiosity. I'll post progress but first things first and tear into it and see if its possible

I had a couple beers in me and was talking out my ass, this morning i dont feel like doing it lol, because of the 20 ft restrictions on my lake and the more the hp the more you pay for a surcharge im going to tag it 140 hp, i probably am leaning towards the BBC,
i will do some measurements this afternoon and see if its possible to keep the center counsel where is at and possibly install a bolster behind it. i have to probably keep it a v-drive because the midship will kill space...i would imagine the hull design is close to a FN, I'll start snapping pictures when i get rolling...FF I'll start a new thread though...sorry for the intrusion |

No problem Eric,I don't think a few posts are going to make a ten page thread any worse.

F and F funny you said that cause thats was I was thinking the whole way to work this morning, i need a donor, I buy from salvadge pools and may scrounge for a Duramax,
first things first, logistics...measuring, what will work what wont the boat has a 150hp hanging on the ass so it was designed for weight aft. i have everything i need including silent choice, and tips to go out the side of the boat...even considering the secret weapon, which is up on the shelf....i dont want to kill myself. it will be labeled: "wake up Fish" lol, dual purpose |

Eric,
How deep is the V hull? I.E., how low can you get the engine in the bilge? Why not consider pattering it off a DD Fish where the dog house is the helm seat? |

That would be better for fishing right? You would still have the rear open which would me more comfortable to reel in the fish. Unless the engine would sit low enough then it may not make any difference.

I havnt inquired lately on the HP, but you have to carry a million dollars in liability, I may be grandfathered in from the past on the HP, because i have had boats on there in the past and it was basically a yearly fee, that got changed a couple years back and the boat population dwindled to about half of what it once was so it must be pricey
Pete, i figure the engine on the ass end has to be 400 lbs now, its pretty deep up front and the swales to to break the waves...very much. resembles a whaler, its all open with a console right in the middle. there is no seating up front, it would be more of a tender than anything and would suit the......dammit Pete, i keep beating around the bush, it will pull tubes just fine lol, |

Maybe you guys can help me out.I can't decide how to finish the lettering on the boat.My wife says solid white original-ish and my shop helper likes the air nautique logos. We have been arguing for two months whether or not its right to label a boat something else.Any bright ideas?

Yep, I know what those are for. Use them all the time for safety wires. Funny thing is, I don't know what the actual tool is called. I sure Pete does though, if not maybe jbear, seems like they would be something a lineman would carry.

Yeah, my dad has a set of those pliers, they are used to make a nice pretty and tight twist in wires. I've only used them once, for the bolts on my drive shaft coupling, but from what I remember, you grab the two ends of the wire then pull out on the piece in the middle of the pliers and it makes a pretty twist in the wires. Not sure what they are called though.
Also, with your graphics, as custom as your going with the boat, I don't think there would be any shame in putting on the AIR decal. I believe it comes down to preference unless you were going all original, which your not. If you do go with a decal, like the AIR logo, don't do like I did and center it horizontally on the boat. Before I fill the ballast, the decal is mostly out of the water, but after I fill the ballast (1000 lbs), only about 1/2 the decal is out of the water. I should have went about 6 inches higher than center. |

Ironicly their called safety wire pliers. Mostly found in aircraft mechanics tool boxxes, then race mechanics. Back in John's early career, if somethin' moved,he'd use black tape, later he'd use a cable tie. He needed something a pair of snips could open fast, cuz he had an appointment at 930 at the coffee shop

I have been watching this build and you are doing amazing work and making amazing time.
About the graphics. I would go with something custom. You built are building a custom boat so I say put some kind of graphic on it that gives you the credit. I say get something custom made that says Super Air 2001 by Your Name. Again great work. Where are you from in OK? I live in southeast Kansas and would love to come see it when you get it done. |
