Yea...why?
I thought it was unusual that the trunk sprouted after being cut for so long. The plastic was full coverage until the tornado storms we had recently. |

No sex joke Nate, but I'm glad someone else found it interesting! I looked at it last night when I was bone tired and the title of this thread just hit me...reminds me of a cartoon I saw years ago where a stork is about to swallow a frog, but the frog is reaching out of the stork's mouth to choke off his wind! LOL

Greg, You may want to coat that piece of Cherry so you could one day use it. The Pentacryl sometimes doesn't work on fruit woods but it still may be worth a try. Why do you have a piece of your neighbors cherry tree???

That made me laugh!!! I collected it Pete, and I do intend to use it. I meant to get the ends waxed but when I missed the boat(first rain) I figured I'd let it spalt. I have several other big chunks of my neighbor's trees as well...1 is 43" in diameter, 10" thick, and still wrapped up. |

I had a bunch of cherry sawn up on last fall, and have it stickered (seperated with lath to aid in drying) in my barn. How long should it sit before I can use it?
I did the same with some black walnut 4-5 years ago. Same question, how long till I can use it? My wife told me that I'm going to make her a dining room table someday with the walnut. |

It's hard to say without knowing the surounding moisture and air circulation as far as how fast it will dry. For a inside project, you will want the wood to be at about 8%. The best way to check is with a moistur meter. The more expensive they are, the lower and more precise they will read. moisture meters (put moisture meters in Woodworkers Supply key word search) I'm sure you wouldn't want to see that Walnut table split and warp!! Take you time. it may take several years. |
