Ok residents of the Northeast - What does the soft drink Moxie taste like? I just found out that it is a very old soda and is still popular in your area. The comment was made that it is considered to be Maine's state drink!!

Pete, It was the 1st soda invented in the late 1800's long before coke or pepsi. It was invented in Maine. Lisbon Falls, ME claims to be the Moxie capital of the world and has an annual parade. It's the only soda I drink. Ironically, it is bottled under license from an Atlanta, GA company. Not only is it delicious, it is good for an upset stomach, hangover, and even tastes good with rum.

I never heard of it, did they mix anything in it like coke did in the early days?

Eric, I don't think so. As far as taste, you either like or you don't.

I think it has something to do with the term 'He's got Moxie!'

Mike, ice has been out for a few weeks. The snow is even gone and I wheeled the Mustang out last week. Is the ice off Mousam?

What's good about Moxie is that it is not sweet. It's the best thing to drink if you don't want to drink beer.

My Gram taught me moxie is delicious mixed with milk.

By itself, yah, tases like rat's azzhole. Rather have a stiff ginger beer.

John, If you get off the beaten path, there's a lot of places like this up here.

Gottaski, I thought I was hard core drinking Moxie and Rum, but Moxie and Milk, dang, where's your gramma from Vermont?

My thanks again to Gary for finding the Moxie and introducing me to it at GL. Yes, it is a very difficult taste to describe! Peter is close describing it as a off taste Dr. Pepper, but I wouldn't go as far as the sulfur and fuel oil!

Tom (gotta), I don't know about the rat idea - I haven't been sniffing or licking rat's lately!!

The bottom line is I do like the stuff. My wife did find a local source and I have the feeling I'm going to find some in my Christmas stocking this year! I'm going to have to try Bruce's mix with the rum since I feel he's the pro on the Moxie.

I tried Moxie over the weekend as Bruce Hart and his two sons, Dave and Tom, were in town to pick up their new boat. They'll be posting picts of that elsewhere. I really like the Moxie, and to me it indeed tastes similar to Dr. Pepper, which I also like, with maybe a hint of ginger ale, as there's a small, clean, bite to it. The Moxie would make a great natural sponsor to this site with it's orange can and blue letters. I also enjoyed a couple of delicious, fresh, i.e, still alive, Maine lobstahs which Bruce brought down.

   True.

Funny thing is,if the Moxie stand was on a lot in Biddeford Pool, someone would happily come along from out of state and buy it up for half a mil, just so they could burn it down and build a house there.
