Check the power valve and the accelerator pump in the carburetor.

When you throw her down, the accelerator pump is what get's you through the transition between idle and the main circuit. Make sure your pump has a good "squirt" by looking into the carb with the breather off. Make sure that when the linkage moves the gasoline comes out immediatley. If the floats are set too low the pump may actually load with air and not pump enough gas.

After the accelerator pump cycle, the amount of fuel can be increased by a drop in engine vacuum which causes the Power Valve to give you more fuel.

If your throwing her down and she dies...your not even into the Power Valve circuit so spend some time making sure you have good accelerator pump action.
