My 1974 SN dies after about 30 minutes of run time and will not restart. If I let it sit and cool off it will take off and run for another 30 min. Several years ago the original coil failed and I replaced with what as availible. Standard metal can coil from Ford. I have had to replace it many times. I am convinced that i have mismatched the coil and ballast resistor.
Can you tell me the correct part numbers for the coil, ballast resistor, and condencer used in a 1974 SN with a Ford 351 Windsor? Watermule@charter.net |

As long as the coil you used is designed to be used with a ballast resistor, there is virtually no way to go wrong. Are we absolutely sure that it is an electrical problem? First place I would look with this symptom would be at the fuel supply for the strainer in the tank being restricted, and as you run more trash piles up against the strainer, then falls away when you stop flowing fuel. You can judge whether it is running out of fuel by running it until it shuts down then remove one of the bottom bowl screws from the carb and see whether the bowl is full or not.
The ignition parts are the same ones that come from PCM today. I can give you PCM part #s if you want them. ArtC |

I would love to get the PCM part numbers.
Going down to the lake this wekend so I will try pulling the tank and draining. Never have done this so no telling what is in there. |
