I just ran my 75 Ski Nautique for the first time this past weekend. It runs strong and will not need an engine overhaul. One speedo works fine and the other at speed fills one quarter full of water which drips out. Where is my problem. Somewhere the water is getting through?

I have one that does the same thing. I have not taken the time to see what the problem might be. If anyone else knows what to check please respond.
Thank you.

The speedo is shot. They actually work with air pressure and the diaphram in the speedo is torn or leaking so the water just runs into it then.
When people run down to the lake to see what's making that noise, you've succeeded.

Thanks for your reply. Can you replace the diaphram? or I'm I in the market for a new speedo?

I'm not sure if you can replace it or not. I just seem to recall a few others that had the same issue. I believe that they ended up replacing it. I know that my In-laws had that issue with their boat and they ended up replacing it. The other problem that you'll have is that Airguide is no longer in business so trying to find a factory type replacement is going to be an issue. Your only option is ebay or someplace that would have used ones available. You can try a post in the "wanted to buy" column or watch for guys that part out boats in here and sell whatever they can.

NOT SHOT!
Good news! My 74SN probably has the same speedos(that's speedometers, not bathing suits!) and one of mine did the same thing. These units use a metalic(copper or brass) diaphram chamber with a soldered seam around the circumferance. If any moisture gets in there and freezes(in the winter)it will split this seam.
   1. Carefully disasemble unit, stick a lengh of hose on the fitting and blow or use a bicycle pump to put 10 or 15 lbs on it to find the leak. Then re-solder that area using a soldering iron(mine is about 25 watts). If steam comes out of the fitting, you got moisture, if not , it was just a bad seam and 30 years! Re-test when cool. Resolder if it still leaks. Reasemble carefully as these things are valuable.
   2. Remove these speedos as part of your winterization. You shouldn't have to, but it's a lot easier than trying to repair them after they have frozen. Even if there is still some water in there, it won't cause you any trouble.
I did one of mine 3 yrs ago and have had it up to 40mph with no problems.

try a search for speedo repair I read on here where someone does it or knows where to send them. As I recall air guide has gone under and does not repair them anymore. Yoe sent them to Chicago and they did the repairs and sent them back. I had a daiphram rupture in mine as well. somebody chime in if I am wrong about air guide .

I have sent both my speedos to be restored by coolboats. When I get them back I will post the results.
